You have a point, if the goal is indeed to at some point annex the states of Virginia and North Carolina as well.

But until that time the BiG will remain in terms of perception a Midwestern conference.

Cheers,
Neil

I don't know if I would call it a goal. It really is just a remote possibility. All the current moves stand on their own as good choices for the Conference whether or not the merry mob of ACC forumsters agree or not. With Maryland, Rutgers and JHU the conference has successfully moved itself into a new footprint.

For me personally, I think it is dependent first and foremost on whether or not your conference can figure out how to get an ACC Network started. It most certainly is not a sure thing yet your commissioner promised that it was as per words of Mr. Haggard out of FSU.

Yeah! In your face, ACC lacrosse. You are next ACC ultimate frisbee! Soon the B1G will own the Olympic sports world! Boo-ha-ha-ha! Boo-ha-ha-ha!

So the ACC won both men and women's lacrosse national titles this year and somehow should fear the B1G? Common sense should tell everyone there is no way the state of Maryland would have allowed JH to go to the ACC. Not after what's going on with Maryland.

Common sense? Like realizing the state of Maryland couldn't make Johns Hopkins University - a private institution - do sh*t?

Someone asked a few pages ago for input so I thought I'd share.

I am from Maryland as well, born in Baltimore.

Like AtlanticLeague, there is no way I would consider myself a southerner. None.

Mid-Atlantic region or East Coast, whatever floats your boat.

Should have been Syracuse IMHO.

The BiG has very little use for privates, imho.

Cheers,
Neil
Its a real shame that UMass and at least one of the SUNYs has never bothered to truly invest and develop their athletic programs. Along with UConn, they would have been perfect fits for the conference, especially for expansion.

I as well am a former Maryland resident. It is NOT a souther state but neither is it a northern state. I grew up in close to DC so I feel like it is a pretty metropolitan area. But depending where you are in MD you can be have rural farm land, you have mountains in the west and you got Washington, DC and Baltimore. Quite a mix for a small state. I don't remember who it was...Omni maybe? Said MD is a southern state. I think it goes back to civil war era. MD/PA line is the Mason-Dixon line which was the "traditional" line separating the north and south.

im glad to hear you say this. I got into a "discussion" awhile back on here about maryland being a northern or southern state. He insisted it was in every way. I disgreed. Maryland is like Kentucky IMO, is that state really southern? I consider "southern" states to be those that were part of the confederacy. While Maryland and Kentucky had southern "leanings" i still consider them more Northern if i had to pick one or the other

I think of Kentucky as both midwestern and southern. To me Louisville has both midwestern and southern characteristics to it. The Cincinnati suburbs definitely feel midwestern as well.

Maryland I don't think of being southern at all. I'd consider that northeastern or Mid-Atlantic through and through. In my opinion Maryland has more in common with coastal New England than it does say Georgia or Tennessee.

The Eastern Shore of Md is southern, western Md is like rural N Va or C Pa,, while BaltWash is northeastern.
