Great news for Pirate Nation....class act:)

I hope Coach Ruff and the Pirates live up to my lofty, unrealistic expectations for this coming season.

Ruff showed he had cajones when he fired his DC, who he was very good friends with. We have the right man at the helm of the Pirate Ship.

This is a really good look into the type of coach that Ruffin McNeill is.

Definitely worth watching for any football fan.

Ruffin McNeill seems like a great man but I am not sold on him as a head coach yet. This season should prove a lot.

Pirate fans are certainly more knowledgeable and informed than me about their realistic expectations.

I agree. You can't find a prouder alumni, and he takes the loses harder than a normal coach. I think if our defense finally gets uprighted, then we will be good.

It (can) suck not having the ability to allow coaches to set their feet, before tossing them. Coach Beamer was 17-26-1 his first four years at VT. I am not comparing Coach Ruff to Coach Beamer, but Beamer would've been fired if he was hired 20 years later.

It certainly should be easier for ECU to win CUSA this year...no UCF, no Houston, no SMU...adds FAU and FIU to their division, etc....

I love having a man of his character as coach.

The guy has basically had 2 bad losses. 13 of 19 losses you would be expected to lose to BCS schools with winning records or schools that were ranked or getting top 25 votes while you are in rebuild mode. Gezz. I'm fully behind Ruff.

I'll just rephrase it. He's lost to "two bad teams".

The problem with Ruff isn't his record over three years he is about where Skip was after three seasons and ahead of where Steve Logan was after three seasons. An 8-4 regular season last year is a good year and I was happy. The problem with Ruff is the embarrassing losses not who we lost to but how we lost. The Navy games in 2012 and 2010 were as bad as it gets. The Rice game in 2010 was a damn joke and the Houston game in 2011 was a nightmare. If you took away the Navy game last year I think people would be pleased with how the year went same with Navy and 2010 hell I'm still not over that game.

I agree, BP. However, those losses can be directly tied to an inability to make defensive adjustments, and perhaps replacing the DC will fix that problem. I guess we'll find out soon.

A loss is a loss regardless of the amount. Just move on because if we had lost them close like Skip always did or letting teams come from behind like Logan did at the end you would probably be sicker and fans would just ***** over that. Ruff's done enough IMO and has us positioned well the next 2 years to deserve the extension and I'm glad he got it.
