He played the vicitim of circumstance card with the "injury bug" comment. Bottom line is everyone has injuries, its the nature of the sport.

So he then threw his OC and DC under the bus and then blamed the fact that USM doesn't have big boy money. I didn't see where he took any blame for the situation....

He sucked and was in over his head. Perfect example of the Peter Principle.

Not having "big boy" money may be the lamest excuse of all.

Did he take a look at his schedule?

I realize USM gets more bang for its buck than any school I know of, but they weren't exactly lining up against USC and Notre Dame every week.

His strength coach's old school methods were a large part of the injuries. Leading the nation in yards gained per game by qb draw is not exactly cutting-edge offense. Not playing your big boy army all-american running back on short yardage situations, while a 180 back ran up the middle is another. Mercy, I could sit here and write a book called, "Coaching lessons learned by not following the E12 model."

One glaring problem I still see at USM is I don't think you have a proper IA QB on your roster. There was 3 QBs that played in the Marshall game. Those 3 were Antony Alford, Ricky Lloyd and Antonio Favor. Two of those in Alford and Favor are gone. Ricky Lloyd looked scared and timid in the backfield and he doesn't look like he commanded the team as a leader.

Frankly, I have moved beyond Johnson and wish him the best. As long as he doesn't act the fool, I am content to just say he and the University made a mistake getting him as head coach and the mistake has been corrected. I just want USM back to winning games and playing solid football.

We had plenty of proper D1 quarterbacks on our roster........the glaring problem was that we had ZERO coaches who knew what the hell they were doing.

Against Nebraska, Campbell was looking pretty good, but then Johnson decided to go with Alford, and then Lloyd which didn't make a lot of sense. It broke the confidence that Campbell seemed to be gaining and changed the style of attack that was working pretty well as well as disrupting the flow of the game. Campbell was injured eventually and maybe not settling on a starter added to his being injured since the line had to be confused on how to block for the completely different styles. Monken has a history of creating good QBs and knows how to be patient with them which USM has reportedly signed some QBs that are talented enough to be molded by such a mentor as Monken. I am more concerned how the defense comes around than the QB position at this point.

Outside Alford (he just plain sucked), the QBs were not the problem as much as the incredibly, remarkably stupid "scheme" we ran. Our QBs were all set up for total failure.

Don't forget we also have the transfer from Cal.

I believe we were tied 14-14 with Nebraska when he made the first move.

He is what he is, a "career tool" for the "Dixie Mafia" (sec), may he enjoy this new chapter of his life, carrying Gus Malzhan's luggage. He was a garbage head coach and USM was right to show him the way out of Hattiesburg when they did, in one season, he all but ruined a damn good and competitive football program.

I noticed that whenever I called "The Zone" (97.3 fm) and mentioned his name, whoever the host was at the time of the call would get real defensive and try to change the direction of the dialogue, because they happen to be friends with the guy...."sigh"....Birds of a feather....I want USM standing upright, rough and ready when UAB knocks them on their 05-ban again! 03-lmfao & I hope this new hire restores the "screech" at Southern Mississippi...
