I'm a homer, but #8 Arkansas and Nick Saban coaches Alabama have to top the list. In fact, ULM and National Champion year Auburn are the only teams to beat Alabama at home in the Nick Saban era. Hopefully we add Oklahoma to the list this year. Surprisingly on the Oklahoma Scout board they are worried.

Texas A&M, LSU

That should paint the ULM win in a different light, from that list. No one else outside of the $EC has accomplished that!

The biggest problem with ULM is money. They have a small enrollment and are basically robbing Peter to pay Paul to stay above water. They are in a hot bed of football talent. Google West Monroe High School for you out of state folks. They are a national powerhouse.

I don't have to be sold on ULM...they're the only team in the league we can't seem to beat in their home stadium...bad juju to me...

I wouldn't sell anyone on ULM. I don't see how they can hang on in 1-A for too much longer. They have done some surprising things with very little. Why can't Troy beat them at home? We don't seem to have much of problem with them.

The Cajuns have a 2 game alltime lead in the series, thanks to the current five game winnings streak. We had won 4 of 5 before that and when I was in school we never lost to y'all. I wouldn't call that no trouble. Thanks again for your concern on our finiacial situation, but we will be just fine. Biggest non-coference win I would have to vote Ulm over Alabama.

I still say how ULM does it is pretty dang impressive. I figure they will be fine because they have been so far, but how they do it just boggles my mind.

No one is dreaming of anything, ULM will remain FBS as long as the state allows them, by that I mean as long as the state allows a 3% transfer of the general fund to go towards athletics ULM will be fine. Once the state disallows that 3% transfer to go towards athletics then you might see the Southland get really, really strong because ULM, Louisiana and La Tech will be in a world of hurt.

I say ULM over Alabama is the easy choice. How many kids on the current ULM roster went to West Monroe? Seems like most of the D1 talent in the Bowling Green area end up at uk or go out of state.

We are currently no where near using the full 3% transfer rule, Unlike tech and ull. We are the least subsidied program in the sunbelt. It will hurt if they cut that rule out, but I believe we can survive especially if we keep winning. We would have to finally get our students to pass a athelictic fee as well.

Your transfer has been over $3.5 mil or more annually, that is a huge chunk of change. All schools have the opportunity to plan for these coming cuts at this time.

Of the 3 programs, UL is in the best position as for as outside resources.

I want to make something clear. I don't want to see ULM back in 1-AA. I really don't care other than I would like to be in a conference without you guys. That's not a dig at ULM. I think being in different conferences would be good for both schools. I was pulling for you guys when you were opening eyes early last season. Also I didn't mean to imply that we in anyway owned ULM in football. I simply meant unlike Troy we have beaten you guys at your place.

Article in the paper today says that because of last season season ticket sales have doubled so far this year.

La Tech is the only school using the full 3% transfer amount. Dr Savoie actually cut the transfer by just over $1M to offset academic cuts. We are growing our budget with outside funds.

According to this ULL is spending more "school money" than ULM...at least up till 2011 I don't know about last year.

ULL used all of their funds and actually when in the red by 400k while ULM was in the black by 1.5 million

Of course we are spending more school money, we have double the students which equates to a much larger general fund. The fact remains, we do not use the total amount allowed while ULM has.

Had Dr Savoie not withheld just over $1 million from the general fund transfer we would have been in the black as well, with an even higher athletic budget.

Numbers don't lie but purely looking at numbers can be deceiving. Fact is we may have been operating at a deficit but we also go to more post season tournaments than ULM which requires expenditure of money. I'd look at it as marketing dollars as the more and longer your name is out there the better. I'm being clear that I'm not disputing the numbers presented because I can't. Call what I said a spin on circumstances but in the end it makes sense and is more than likely the reason for the noted deficit.

I will say though ULM has done considerably more than expected when it comes to product out and I applaud them for that.
