RE: SEC distributions
I'd be interested in seeing the "by school" breakdown.

Odd that the ACC distribution was somewhat uneven (range $15.7 to $18.6) when they proclaim equality and that the Florida fb schools were near the bottom. There must be some kind of "earned" allocation of basketball credits.
ESPN article implied the Big 12 was completely even (other than new members). The prior year 990 showed a small $600k variation ($14.0-$14.6) among continuing members.
So it would be interesting to see how the SEC works.

RE: SEC distributions
Many of the third tier media holdings are not in the count until 2014, so that SEC number will go up. Individual school numbers would be interesting. The numbers also does not count Bowl money received or some academic money received by the league.

It does include most bowl money. SEC gives schools a "bonus" for making it to bowls. That's why the bottom disclaimer is talking about.

20.7 mil for each of the 14 schools. It's mentioned in the article.
"The revenue sharing plans include money generated by football television, bowls, the SEC Football Championship, basketball television, the SEC Men’s Basketball Tournament, NCAA Championships and supplemental distribution.
The average amount to be distributed to each school is $20.7 million.
Not included in the $289.4 million was $14.1 million retained by the institutions participating in bowls and $980,000 divided among all 14 institutions by the NCAA for academic enhancement."

No, the article only says that is the average.

The SEC has equal revenue sharing policies don't they? The bowl money looks like it is not included...

RE: SEC distributions
From 132.5 million in 2009 to 289.4 million in 2013...and people blame ESPN for the mess this sport is in?
Before a bunch of posts claiming ESPN did this or ESPN did that, all I am pointing out is that ESPN hasn't more than doubled its revenue in just five years.

They do for the most part but some schools get "performance" bonuses. I'd be interested to see the payout for Alabama vs Mississippi St. Does anyone know if A&M and Missouri get reduced payouts?

I haven't seen anything official, but everyone says they got full shares immediately.
ACC is supposed to be equal even on Tier 3, but had a spread from $15.7 million to $18.6 million last year.

Also not included for 2012 is the third tier revenue that was the private domain of the schools until the network is unveiled in 2014.

They should receive an equal share minus any loan repayments the SEC may have made to help them make their moves. I'm not sure the Aggies got one, but I think Mizzou did.

And to answer your previous question, Mizzou and A&M receive full shares, unlike the Big Ten.

That was unusual. Shows the SEC really wanted A&M. And they couldn't very well offer Missouri, from the same conference, a worse deal. Utah got a weaker deal than Colorado and Rutgers than Maryland, but both were starting from a lower revenue stream in the MWC and Big East.

Each conference, including the SEC, has its faults, but they are excellent at building comradery among the member institutions. Small things like full revenue sharing from Day 1 for new members, scheduling premiere home openers for their inaugural SEC football games, and trying to build unanimity for big decisions instead of pushing through rules/policies that only have 3/4 support are why they don't need a Grant of Rights or any other agreement to stick together. All in all, they try to do right by each other, which I suppose lines up with the "Handshake is my bond" mentality down here. Now, let's get going on that uniform drug policy, scheduling more conference games, and sticking to the promises made this week to hold each other more accountable in non-conference basketball scheduling.
