Music related, we win.

03-zzz

It's rumored that Don Henley named The Eagles the Eagles because his school he attended mascot was the Eagles and they couldn't come up with anything else. He has never denied these rumors.

(This post was in good fun.)

Ray Guy belongs in the NFL Hall of Fame. I don't understand why he wasn't voted in in his first year of eligibility.

Just as an example, Roger Gooddell himself has publicly stated that he doesn't believe that punters are on the field enough to deserve hall-of-fame recognition. His words are thought to represent the feelings of several others with power over such matters. To date, no punter has ever been voted in. If one ever does, the first one will almost certainly be Ray Guy. Current speculation has it that his best chance will be to go in with Brett Favre.

I saw Ray Guy punt in college and he is truly the best of best in punter's history. Ray would flip the field of play on each punt. Anyone who knows anything about football will tell you value of good punter. Ray Guy was a key factor for Oakland in its glory days and championships.

I'll throw in a few for WKU even though we are a year off from joining.

Jeremy Evans - 2012 NBA Slam Dunk champion (currently with the Utah Jazz)
Claire Donahue - Gold metal winner in swimming - 2012 summer Olympics
Kenny Perry - golf
Courtney Lee - Boston Celtics
Clem Haskins - basketball
Romeo Crennel - NFL coach
Jack Harbaugh - didn't play at WKU or graduate from WKU, but was our longtime football coach that retired after we won the 2002 D1AA National Championship. He is the father of John (Baltimore Ravens HC) and Jim Harbaugh (49ers HC). Jack's daughter, Joani, is married to Tom Creen (IU hoops HC) and they meet when Tom was an assistant on the WKU bball staff.

Bonus add: Rod Smart - football 04-cheers

Surprised Graeme McDowell of UAB hasn't been mentioned yet. Won the 2010 U.S. Open.

And that is total bulls***. If you are universally accepted as the greatest player at your position ever, how can you not be in the hall of fame?

Lol UNT sucks so bad that the only time they were good, they named their school mascot after the best player. 03-lmfao

In our case, that's very hard. Take your pick.

Basketball:

Hakeem "The Dream" Olajuwon
Clyde "The Glide" Drexler

This is somewhat a matter of perspective. We as Southern Miss fans believe he deserves it. Raider nation believes he deserves it. A lot of other people out there believe he deserves it including a lot of outspoken hall-of-famers. Almost none of those people, however, have to sit down and vote for a handful of guys out of dozens of deserving players. I'd think its like sitting down and picking out which one of your children is your favorite after all of them grew up to be successful and have loving families of their own. Families have the luxury of voting everyone into their hall of fame if they want to, but the NFL does not.

I don't care, though...if I was on that voting panel, he wouldn't be out of the hall of fame because of me.

Well, since you insist on claiming him, you gotta take his 21 month suspension from professional track/field for doping as well.

Oh we do, just like you claim Brett's addiction to pain killers. LeShawn ran track for ECU, to have another school claim him as a high profile player is ridiculous.

It has to be Chris Johnson for ECU, he still holds the most yards from scrimmage in a single season in NFL history.

Also just because ppl don't like the way Chris speaks, his hair, or teeth. Doesn't mean he is a bad person. The guy has never been arrested, suspended, or had any off the field issues.

Funny. That's not true at all. Our nickname was Mean Green and he adopted the nickname already.

Really? Kevin Kolb and Case Keenum are famous? News to me.

...

I too thought for decades that "Mean Green" was an adaptation of "Mean Joe Green", but in looking it up I see that the nickname and Joe arrived in Denton at about the same time.

Mean Green was a name given to the UNT (NTSU) defense for leading the nation in rushing defense. "Mean Joe Green" wasn't given to him until after he was with Pittsburgh.

If I keep my eyes and ears open and I can learn something every day.
