HILTON HEAD, S.C. – Appalachian State’s men and women have won the Southern Conference’s all-sports trophies for the 2012-13 academic year. The Mountaineer men won the Commissioner’s Cup, while the women claimed the Germann Cup.

The Commissioner’s and Germann cups are awarded annually to the Southern Conference schools fielding the league’s best all-around men’s and women’s sports programs, respectively. Schools earn points based upon their regular-season finishes, with two bonus points going to the teams that win their respective conference tournaments.

App State is the only school to sweep the Commissioner's and Germann Cups and has done it nine times. This makes 33 of the last 36 Commissioner's Cups.

Congrats on winning the cup again. Which conference titles did yall win this year? I know GSU got a few, but honestly don't know which teams won the others. But I think you'll have more competition in the SBC.

I imagine you are correct, would expect we will have a lot more competition in the Sun Belt.

App won football, X Country, Indoor T&F, and top four in all sports other than baseball, finished fifth.

App is hands down the best overall athletic program in the SoCon. We are going to have to step it up though in all sports to compete like that here.

No argument here-- App. does have a well rounded athletic program. At Georgia Southern I think we are improving overall but have been at or near the bottom in a number of non-revenue sports. Our new AD says the goal in the SunBelt is to be competitve for conference championships in every sport. That will be easier said then done.

The Bubas cup will be up for grabs in 2014. The last time a school other than MT or WKU won it was 2000.

You deserve your cups, but I will point out you are also the only school in the SoCon to offer all 10 men's sports (partially why you have a monopoly on the Comm cups). Only 3 of the other 11 schools offer at least 9. However, in the 6 mens sports that we offer you still beat us by 1 point! 04-cheers

Maybe we'll add a few once we move up.

I will counter that we are spreading our peanut butter over a larger cracker, and yes, while we can accumulate more points, we have to allocate our resources to more sports.

In most years the point per sport sponsored App would still finish first.

It will be interesting to see what women's sport App picks up to offset the football scholarships.

A lot of times, it is what sports get dropped. Who knows how long Men's soccer or tennis will stick around.

I know our AD said that our men's soccer and wrestling were going to stay in the SoCon and would not be dropped. I thought I heard we would be adding women's lacrosse. Looks like Davidson plays in the Big South. I'm sure they will move it to the Atlantic 10 with all of their other sports (except football), so maybe we could take their spot in the Big South.

Adding Women's Rifle and highly likely we add Women's Golf (not decided yet).

The rifle team will have an Olympic class facility to practice in due to a joint partnership with Georgia DNR to build an indoor shooting range for pistols/rifles and an outdoor range for archery. Apparently there's already a nationally ranked archer on our campus as well.

Here's an article from when it was announced: http://chronicle.augusta.com/sports/outd...y-facility
