Do they still have those very strict recruiting rules in place to clean up the mess from a few years ago? I have heard that is what is killing the program as much as anything. That is a very good job if they can compete for recruits on an even playing field.

Nah, the best thing for CU football would be to reject the AD's resignation, hire Embree again, and chain the two of them together at CU for a generation (heh-heh-heh...)

Pretty sure you mean the best thing for CSU would be for CU to do that. Not that I would mind, my wife is a CSU alum. Does the new stadium still look like a go? Last I read local residents were trying to block it.

I read that CU's biggest problem is that all assistant coaches are on a 1 year contract basis. If you are a decent up & coming asst. coach for football, basketball or baseball why would you go there if you had another opportunity? It must make putting a staff together nearly impossible.

CU is a wreck, with boosters and has-beens calling the shots -- not so different than the stuff we all spout on these boards. No, the issues at CU run much deeper than the athletic director or football coach. The academics, alumni, administration, and governing board all have vastly different visions for the university and its athletics, and these schisms prevent any one of them from achieving their goals. I'm thinking another 10 years of sub-mediocrity for most sports except skiing and mens hoops -- and the mens hoops coach could easily walk away in 4-5 years.

Regarding my snide comment earlier, I do think CU's assorted parties need to have a big-azz powwow and figure out the place for athletics, and I think a few years of dreadful football seasons would go a long way toward this conversation. A strong CU is good for CSU; also think the reverse is true, tho I've not found many CU alumni/boosters who share my view.

One positive: the former womens hoops coach, Ceal Barry, is now the interim AD. As much as I loathe all things CU, I've always held Barry in high regard. I expect she'll be a place-holder, as she's retirement age and seems to not have the stomach for the oncoming fights.

Yes, the on-campus stadium at CSU is moving forward. A few NIMBYs were screeching for a few months, and the university president has held numerous open forums -- why doesn't that change to 'fora'? -- where he listened patiently to all input, pro and con. He's stated that 50% of the funds need to be secured by fall 2014 (if memory serves) before the Tonka Toys start moving earth. Our AD is meeting with and securing commitments for this 50% right now, from big-money donors and corporations. All the alumni I talk to and read are fired up and ready to open their wallets.

CSU has the same issue -- it's a state law. A boneheaded state law.
