Uh yeah, don't say only a BCS bowl win makes it better or you're in a bad mood for a while!

As for your stat, I saw that on Gamenight last night, and now actually SU has pulled this cover your eyes stat: The last 4 times SU has won the BE tournament, they have not made it out of the 2nd round at all. Uggh! At least I had you losing to LSU so my bracket didn't take a big hit.

Winning the Big East tourny just isn't worth it IMO, especially if the Cuse blew there load doing it

And yes a BCS/Gator bowl win will make me feel better. I want WVU it all now 04-rock

Pusher, tell Boeheim to lose in the Big East tourny next time.LOL All he had to do was win a game or two and then not show up for the championship game or semis.LOL

Yeah I think conference tournament championship is overrated. I am sort of glad UCONN lost the 1st game and got plenty of rest for the big show. We should be ready to kick some butt in the next few days nice and fresh.

Most of the times I would agree with you, but the 2006 BET was something magical. If beforehand the basketball gods said its either those 4 days and a 1st round loss to a no-name program or a loss in the BE semis to G'Town and then a loss to either LSU or Duke - I'd definitely take those 4 days.

Besides, the only Sweet 16 wins that are immortalized are the mid-major victories. For a high major program only the Elite 8s and above are really important.

And this Syracuse team wasn't likely to get past the second round no less make it to the Elite 8.

Cheers,
Neil

Its funny, we were watching the BET at my office and the consensus was that whoever wins the thing will have no shot at making a run. You could tell SU was playing out of their minds by pulling one BET win after another out of their arses. Eventually the 25 foot runners with time expiring don't fall and the juice runs out. Too bad it had to happen against a middling Big 12 also ran with zero basketball tradition.

I thought it was good for UCONN to lose as well for their national title hopes. I don't think Nova has a shot and wouldn't be surprised to see them go down early.

a) That's part of the charm of these match-ups. Part of what makes the BE special is the style of play, typically fast paced & pounding on the inside. That doesn't mean that BE teams are immune to match-up probelms outside the league or keeping the same mental keel after conference play.

b) Syracuse basketball = Georgia Tech football in their ability to play the role of enigma. I've berated Coach's over-reliance on the athletic ability of his players to make up for some coaching weaknesses and yesterday was the prime example of that symptom. For all my loathing of Coach Calhoun at least his system has offensive options and he can make effective in-game adjustments. Boeheim can't quite do it, at least not as well.

I was wary going into the game, given in to the nerves as Cuse fans are wont to do. After watching the results I'm believing it was the BE tourney that was the fluke and not the poor stretch in mid-season.

Syracuse had a magical BET. They over achieved for four days. Regular season was mediocre (by their standards).

I was surprised they lost to TAMU but really, how does a bubble team before the BET get a 5 seed in the dance??? The committee did not do them any favors.

and I disagree with some of you. I think conference championships are as important as the Dance esp. the BET. Some damn fine ball was played in four days.

Pitt83,

The committee did not do them any favors. Come on here. The Orange was playing a 12 seed!!!!

Syracuse stunk it up last night plain and simple. They slept walked through most of the game. The CUSE should have stayed in New York.

And where is Orange Aid?

Funny, I was thinking the same thing just because the guy was an arse for the last week or so.

As for all the other orange fans, sorry bout your luck.

The argument that the BET is anything nearly as important as making an NCAA run is completely absurd. Those 3 bids yesterday equaled one team making a sweet 16 run in terms of units earned. Quite a waste.

Exactly, L, I should make it clear not to lump them all into the same bunch. Gunner, Omni, Texan, Pusher, Cuseroc (pretty much all of them except Orange Aid) sorry about the loss.

hmm maybe the word "important" isn't the word I wanted to use.

I think "entertaining" would be more to what I meant to say.

The committee gave them a little higher seed then you might have expected. If they had known what appeared to be the extent of McNamara's injury I guarantee they would have dropped them much lower. Hard to believe he sat out the end of the game.
