Syracuse had Vita the goat in the 1920's.

From 1931 to 1978 Syracuse was known as the Saltine Warriors.

Due to a few Native America students whining, Syracuse was forced to find a new mascot. Briefly in 1978 Syracuse had a Gladiator. Who was not well received, apparently mocked and booed off the field in his few appearances. There are no pictures.

Next came The Orange in 1980. (He was not named Otto until 1990)
