Uh . . . yes.

Please refer to the completely empty stands at Target Field this week (B1G Baseball Tourney). Check your local listings for the BTN and sit back, grab a cold one and enjoy.

We're getting Rutgers after all in order gain access to that lucrative market you live in. Now watch!

Jeez, Indiana is ranked 14th, Illinois is ranked 30th.

But its not a big emphasis in the Big Ten. Having to play the first half of your season on the road makes it like Big Ten teams are in a form of for-the-record Spring Training in the early part of the season, when many of the SEC, ACC, Pac-12, CUSA and Sunbelt can play at home.

Most Big Ten schools play, but Wisconsin doesn't, which is kind of understandable.

B1G is looking into playing split Fall/Spring ball because it's a pain to first have to shovel snow off the field or spend half of a semester in Florida.

The Big East is in the same boat. Maybe we can do some sort of scheduling agreement to play a bunch of neutral site games in the south where neither team has the home field advantage. It's not like attendance is an issue since we would be on the road anyway. Split the costs and have some good games. Our conferences share the same geography. I think an over all scheduling alliance can really help keep costs down for non revenue sports.

...honestly, I'm not sure why college baseball couldn't be shifted more into the summer... colleges and universities aren't closed for summer - heck, I took at least a couple of classes each summer quarter (not sure if quarters are even used anymore...) - start up baseball about the same time as MLB, and run into July or early August...

Baseball season already runs past the spring semester/quarter for almost every college, but basically gets wrapped up by July 1 to keep it in the academic year. The season starts in February for crying out loud, though. Maybe they could shorten the season a bit or move the academic year to August 1.

In any event, against all the geographical limits noted, the Big Ten is again a multi-bid baseball conference, getting two teams into the NCAA tournament a second year in a row. If the Buckeyes had not lost 7 of their last 9, it might have been three ... the Buckeyes were a bubble team and in the end did not get an at-large pick.
