Really???

Did NOT see that coming.

Lots of questions. We might get some answers tomorrow at the introduction, but right now . . . wow.

As a long time (like since Casey was a player there) Belmont fan, I guess this means I have to cheer for Lipscomb now...? Or something like that....

RE: Casey Alexander
I can't believe Lipscomb would do that to a conference mate. I don't ever want to be in a conference with Lipscomb anymore. To me, you just don't do that.

In-conference coaching changes are not that uncommon in high-major leagues. I can think of a handful just in SEC football in the last little while.

Plus, it takes two willing parties to make a move like this. I was struck by a quote in the Deland paper that talked about how players and recruits were told, "You made a commitment to Stetson and this is where you belong." Umm . . . ohhhh . . . kay?

Suffice it to say I have a lot of feelings about this choice -- some positive, some not so much. And not just because I was in the gym for 3 BoB's with Casey Alexander guarding Andy McQueen.

I just can't think of a way to defend Lipscomb. How will Lipscomb be able to look Stetson officials in the eye at meetings? That's going to be awkward to say the least.

The way it's being portrayed in Nashville, this wasn't a case of one school "stealing" another school's coach.

Apparently, Alexander wanted out of Stetson. He put his name in the mix at Lipscomb not long after Sanderson "left." Why that was, I don't know. Somebody closer to Deland will have to fill us in. But the Lipscomb AD said he was "surprised" to see that Alexander was interested.

The "why him and not somebody else" questions may never get answered, at least not publicly. One writer used the phrase "Belmont envy," which frankly isn't wrong.

As to the looking in the eye, let's just hope that two years form now there's still a conference to have meetings over.

Meetings are today, Tuesday, of the baseball championships. This will surely be interesting.

Agreed. I wouldn't bet on Stetson and Lipscomb being in the A-Sun 5 years from now. It is clearly becoming a directional state school launching pad into D-1. If the Southern Conference keeps getting robbed, I can see both Lipscomb and Stetson potentially joining as non-football members.
