It's 89.5 miles from Kidd Brewer Stadium to BB&T Field at Wake Forest. Wake used to be a big game for us, back in the day. We haven't played since 2001. We're 7-14-1 all-time, and our fans often outnumbered theirs.
Would love nothing more than to restart that series 85 on 85.

Now, from my house (just for fun)
UT - 16.7 miles
TXST - 46.5
UTSA - 96.2 miles
Baylor - 93.4 miles
TX A&M - 107 miles
Rice - 166 miles
Houston - 168 miles
TCU - 180 miles
UTA - 189 miles
SMU - 192 miles
UNT - 214 miles
TX Tech - 365 niles
UTEP - 585 miles
All in state but I rarely get to go to away games when we do have them in TX. Can't get the time off from work without pissing people off because I want the Saturdays in the Fall.

New Mexico State's Aggie Memorial Stadium is 41 miles from UTEP's Sun Bowl. NMSU has also played UTEP in football a total of 90 times. I don't think anyone can beat that.

Our closest to that would be
Sam Houston 86
Stephen F Austin 85
Unless we play as our FCS games, those totals will stand for a while.

92nd meeting on Sept. 21st 2013. Idaho at WSU. Campus and towns are 8 miles apart. Stadiums are 7 miles apart. Straighten 'er out and as a crow flies it goes to 4 miles. Go Aggies. Beat those Miners.

AT, my group will travel out of Boise for the Arkansas State game this fall and, even though they took off on the SB, the N Tex St game. As far as 2014? I know the Boise area Vandals will be quite involved. When the Trojans play in Boise, we will have your back! Other games this year with no Vandal involvement(?), well, maybe --- we have two open dates, so will have to check out what Troy is doing and other SB teams.

You probably had some World War 1 veterans playing in that game.

Finally the administrators at each school agreed to set aside a portion of campus for the opposing students to paint if their team won. Second closest FBS is Ole Miss at 152 miles but it has been played much less frequently. Rebels lead the series 20-1-2. No games currently scheduled and who knows if there will be any with Freeze as coach.
Third closest FBS is Arkansas at 253 miles but there have been no meetings and none are scheduled.
Great report. Thanks. I taught and coached at Capital High School in Boise when your new HC, Brian Harsin, was a student and QB. Brian was a back up his soph year to Jake Plummer (later AZ St. and the NFL). Then Hars QB'd us and went onto BSU. He was a great kid. You have a great HC. Good luck. And I hope to be at your stadium this fall when the Vandals play. Go ASU, go Harsin and go UI. Looking forward to us on your campus and in your stadium again. Great conference.
Can you confirm the story about Harsin's self proclaimed nickname - "The Mongoose" ?

There was a radio interview locally with Chris Petersen, and best I can recall he either recruited Harsin out of high school or was told by someone who did that Harsin gave himself that moniker in high school in order to best Jake "The Snake" Plummer.

RE: closest rival in miles and trivia about gameday
Kent State being a MAC school has a lot of history with some very close schools.
Akron- 12 miles
Bowling Green State- 136
Toledo-141
Ohio-172
Eastern Michigan-189
Buffalo-219
Miami U- 255
Ball State- 261
Western Michigan-288
And for the only non-conference foe that is in Kent's top ten most played opponents.
Marshal-250
Central Michigan is around 320 miles away and NIU is over 400. Umass is a little over 500.

I can't recall "The Mongoose" nickname during high school. I am now retired from teaching/coaching and his old HC is retired and lives in the subdivision. I can ask him about "The Mongoose" nickname. I will try to get back with you. I do know if ASU could land a H and H with BSU --- wow! You would have a good crowd of fans here for the local kid, done good, in "Welcome Back Mongoose". Hope your AD can get with BSU's AD. Troy and La-Laf have signed on to H and H with BSU. ASU would be a great draw with Harsin bringing the Red Wolves into Bronco Stadium.

Red Wolves. Hawks? Dah. Senior moment, plus living next to our minor league baseball team's (Cubs) ball park, the Boise Hawks. I apologize to the ASU Red Wolves. I did almost go with your old nickname, which I liked by the way.

RE: closest rival in miles and trivia about gameday
As far as rivalries go, it's WKU and then everybody else.
I wish we were going to be conference mates with Memphis. I'd really like to see that rivalry continue, but I'm not sure I want it to continue badly enough for them to take an OOC spot in football permanently.
The only rivalry I could see eclipsing WKU is Vandy and even that is a looooong shot, not because we don't hate them, but I don't see them committing to playing us annually in any sport least of all football, having said that, we do play in baseball nearly every year, we play them in MBB semi regularly, they won't play us in WBB(and that one could be HUGE) and we finally have them back on the football schedule and finally have them in Murfreesboro after beating them the last three times in Nashville(2001, 2002, 2005) the series is Murfreesboro(2015, 2017) Nashville(2016, 2018).
WKU could take a backseat to Vandy if and only if we get to playing them annually in football or at bare minimum get at least a 2-2 every 4-5 years. I don't see that happening without us having some fairly substantial growth in the coming years.

We sort of had a rivalry with SHSU in FCS
Closest FBS stadiums to TXST
UT - 31 miles
UTSA - 51.4 miles
Baylor - 131 miles
Rice - 166
Houston - 169
Sort of? Sam was our sister school in the Texas State system. We've played them nearly 90 times in our history. From what the alumni have told me, we didn't hate them nearly as much as Texas A&I, but more than UTSA.
Yeah, before y'all moved up it was the oldest FCS rivalry game in Texas. 89 times is nothing to sneeze at.
It's interesting to see some of the these rivalry games be so close to each other. If I were a healthy guy, I could literally jog between some of these stadiums. Crazy!
