I wish UTC would really take off. That would be fun road trips back and forth for both schools.

The drop off in schools from South Carolina and Georgia really hurt ECU as far as natural rivals. You have USC, Clemson, UGA, Georgia Tech, and then..... Coastal Carolina and Georgia State & Southern?! Maybe UNC Charlotte and/or Appalachian State can develop over the next decade and give you guys something to look forward to. I was recently in Wilmington, by the way. Loved it.
ECU owns the head to head in football with South Carolina. Also Georgia is a long ways from ECU. Most of our alumni live a few hours north in DC, Maryland, Northern VA. So VT and UVA and Maryland make more sense for us. Also, no way in hell we'd set ourselves back 30 years to play UNCC and App.

The first two are in order, the rest are in no particular order. I like the games with Penn State and enjoyed the series with Nebraska, but the other 9 Midwestern Big Ten teams (prior to Penn State joining) are the ones I definitely want to be part of schedules no matter what.
Yeah, I think the original B1G flagship schools are pretty much a no brainer to stay with each other culturally, geographically, and financially. I can see the westernmost schools liking Mizzou, Nebraska, and/or Kansas and Penn State having a whole variety of other options. Surprised to see Northwestern and Purdue on your list. I didn't know Ohio State had much of a heart for them.

From an outsider POV, I naturally lump you guys with the SMU/Rice/Tulsa private schools, and of course you guys have Southern Miss. I assume La. Tech would also make sense for you. It would be great if Samford really stepped it up. Both schools are great academically and in cities with a ton of Southern culture.

I could see Tulane doing a "magnolia league" type of setup:
- Duke
- Georgia Tech
- North Carolina
- Rice
- SMU
- Vandy
- Virginia
Non-Football:
- Emory
- William & Mary

Cincinnati has the same problem as ECU... all the schools in your region are quite a bit more prominent (Ohio State, Michigan, Indiana, UK, etc.) or less prominent (Miami-OH, Ohio, Central Michigan, Marshall, etc.) than you. I wish the AAC made more sense geographically. For the most part, the public school profiles in the AAC (sans UCONN, poor buggers) fit for everything except geography.

Nice comment on KState! I'm surprised that KU would not want to play Colorado. I guess the population concentrations are so far apart that the large border does not really factor, kind of like Arizona and Utah.

Miami (OH) doesn't like Cincy. Cincy could care less.
That's what I've learned about the modern history of that rivalry.

From an outsider perspective, South Florida and Central Florida would seem like natural fits for ECU. Old Dominion also seems like a good peer as soon as they get football on good footing. ECU is just caught at that weird size where they are not prominent enough for the flagship schools but too prominent to fit in with most of the state directional schools.
I agree that ECU is at a weird size. However, we play or have played almost every one of those schools on a multi-year basis. So, it wouldn't be a stretch to have them as conference foes or for them to see us as conference foes. South Carolina and Clemson are about the only ones, because of stadium size, where it may not be in their best interest to do home/home every single year. For all others, it would be a non-factor.
I said Florida schools as I'd prefer to play UF, FSU or Miami because of the history/memories and pretty decent draws for either side (we have a fair amount of Florida alum and a fan base that would travel there. But other than Miami, those don't seem realistic for home/home series given the current environment. USF and UCF would be good options because I'm sure ECU would want some presence in Florida and the dynamics are there for a better than average rivalry.
I agree that the ODUs and Charlottes of the world would serve as close, regional sparring partners. I'd prefer to see those as close OOC games versus conference foes.

Yeah. Colorado would be my 11th team in that scenario. The problem is that the population of Kansas in clustered around Northeast corner of the state (and in Wichita), while Colorado's population is predominantly around the Denver area. It is nearly 600 miles from Boulder to Lawrence, and only about 200 from Lincoln to Lawrence (to compare Colorado to Nebraska, who I did keep).

I am noticing an abundance of Cincy fans on this board. I guess it makes sense... most of us are lucky to not be in your conference purgatory situation. Maybe UCONN fans are too depressed to even come on here.
