True, they do not fit the public regional mold but they can fill our Navy or Vandy niche. The Citadel could be FBS #3 for SC and provide lots of interesting OOC possibilities with the academies and other coastal schools.

I would not be opposed to them for some of the reasons you posted; I just don't see it happening (desire to move up.) IMO, UTC would be better for the conference if they had the means and desire to move up...

Agreed, the next SoCon that would move up would certainly be Chattanooga and not one of the privates.
Will miss going to football games at The Citadel. When those cadets/bellhops come marching in with their large bag pipes and drummers and then their regular band, with cannons going off and cheering it makes even the visiting fans happy to be there. Their stadium is good, the location in Charleston between the coast and only a couple of blocks from the river is dynamic. Seafood and bars are great. Their fans are very knowledgeable and almost always normally cordial unless they have a big jump on getting inebriated.
Never will forget their cheerleaders getting into a fight with the female cheerleaders that VMI had hired/recruited with that VMI cheerleader having a headlock on The Citadel cheerleader. Evidently The Citadel cheerleaders knew better than to grab the female VMI cheerleaders so the gals were whipping up on them. Wish I could find that picture.
Five or so years ago I believe the Princeton band caused a stir by marching onto their campus playing something they didn't like.

Weber currently is in the Big Sky Conference (FCS) and plays football in Stewart Stadium, a beautiful venue which seats 17,500. The basketball arena, which is usely filled up, is called Dee Events Center, seats12,000. It would fit in nicely between NMSU and Idaho. Easy to get to flying into Salt Lake City and driving a few miles up I-15. Check them out Mr. Benson. The move up to FBS would not be that hard for them and would be a plus for the SBC.
This sounds like a pamphlet. How long have you been working for the Weber State marketing department?

Here you go. I feel bad for the bellhop. He was really in a no-win situation.
Let's not forget the sundresses in downtown Charlston!!! That's the best part about that town.
Is The Citadel actually affiliated with any branch of the military or sponsored by the US government??? Or is it a complete private school??? I've always wondered about that.

Naw, I was only trying to a little sarcasm aimed at the widening footprint that Benson is creating for an originally planned regional conference of southern schools. I'm so darn happy we don't have to travel to south Florida anymore. Personally, I hated to go the few times that I went. I had much rather go west than any farther south.
I am completely amazed with how quiet things have been.
Nothing from JMU, what little we have heard from Missouri St has been that things wont happen any time soon.
I just wish we could hear something from Benson "we are going to wait until next year" or "we have narrowed down our list to XXX schools and will announce by XXX date"

I have a feeling they have narrowed it down to XXX schools but XXX schools want Benson to stay quiet about it.

They not only are happy where they are, they are also happy to see the two of us leaving the SoCon. Rather than move up, they're hoping to see VMI, W&M, or Richmond take our places.
