If you didn't have the University of Georgia over in Athens, Georgia Tech would be an even larger problem for Georgia State.
GT would garner almost all the local fan support except for Alumni and students. Is it because so many people follow them?

UGA just has the second half worst walmart fan base after Bama. There isn't enough time and space to detail all of the reasons to hate them. We came out of GT and are blocks apart. Our music students played in their marching band for decades. So there will never be that level of hate even though we desperately want to beat them at everything. As for them being a problem for us, we're a mid major. We arent competing against C5 schools.

in my opinion, we never played troy enough to have a rivalry. back in the day i see furman as being the hated rivalry; although for me, app has overtaken the hated rivalry from furman. but, furman still sucks.

Miami/Ohio
Toledo/Bowling Green
Akron/Kent
CMU/WMU and also the Michigan MAC Trophy (winner of the 3 MAC schools in Michigan round robin each year)

The league has created a trophy and is trying to get a rivalry going for Northern Illinois and Ball State, but NIU would consider Toledo their rival.

The league would also like to see Buffalo and UMass become a rival if UMass sticks around.

Well UAB is an afterthought, but 1) Their CUSA so they must have their arse stomped. 2) They can't measure and they play on a 99 yard field, therefore they must get their arse stomped until they learn how to measure. Which may never happen so Troy will continue to stomp their arse. 3) They are in state so Troy must show dominance and in Alabama football is all that matters. Once we find a good rivalry to replace it then it will fade out. MT used to be a decent rivalry but they took the money ( and the frakkin palladium) and ran, but that one was kind of dying out anyways ppl were getting less interested b/c it lacked the controversy and heated exchanges of a rivalry. I could see possibly USA becoming a good rivalry, but as of right now it has been quite civil and each others fans seem to have respect for each other, kind of strange if you think about it but I guess that just show the type of fans each team has. I wouldn't rule out either of the GA teams becoming a rival especially GaSo they seem to think they are gods gift to the earth. Sounds like they need a good arse stomping :D

While they are annoying they are not as fun hate as UTSA. It's more fun to dislike a school that dislike you back. UT could care less about us.

All of that is getting a little less as people become informed. Most people who went to TXST from the early 2000s and on is because it was their 1st choice over ut an tamu. I've met plenty of people who were accepted to those schools and chose to come here, including my self and the valedictorian of my senior class.

Ut and tamu shirts have faded away(still some but not as many as in the past) on campus and is frowned upon. There are a some bandwagon alum/current students who may go to ut football games, but honestly if your school was right down the road from not just any other college, but UT you would have some serious challenges to compete with them.

At the end only UTSA is the school that can claim to be where all the ut rejects get sent to. They are the largest hub for students to try and transfer to ut. I don't have the exact percentage, but a very large chunk of the students there wish they were at UT.

I think some of our fans' hatred towards Texas is partly due to an insecurity knowing there's a whole faction of alumni who will never support their alma mater. I used to hate them too, but then I realized it was more out of frustration.. I like playing them in baseball, even if we've lost the last 16 games or what not. And I agree with Sly, they couldn't give a crap about us.

When all things are said and done, UTSA is a fun rivalry and I'd love to join them in the same conference again. Oh, and I would LOVE and opportunity to play UNT and kick their teeth in... they have some of the most annoying fans

I think most of that is due to the fact that we were just happy to be there last year. Once we get over the initial happiness of having a football team, the real fun will begin. We need to get the game moved to the end of the season, like a rivalry is supposed to be.

We'll still be in the newborn stage this season as it is our first of actually playing for a bowl and to visit Troy and a lot of other places.

Go back and look at how Gast entered the football scene a few years ago if you want to see some undeserved chest pounding. The communal hate many teams feel towards them is based on their loud mouthed bragging before they even played a game. Now that their fanbase is slowly realizing how truly terrible they are, most people are easing up on them. Once their administration released their real attendance numbers (less than 8,000 per game) they lost their last delusional bragging platform (that they have a lot of fans and people care).

ULM's athletic program is headed toward bankruptcy and we don't want to do anything that would slow that process down. Once ULM is relegated back to FCS status, La Tech will be the only FBS football program between Dallas and Starkville, as well as Lafayette to Fayetteville. Tech scheduling ULM would do absolutely nothing to help us, while it would be a tremendous boost to them. It isn't personal, it's business.

Not worth the time? If we're just talking basketball, fine. You guys have a tremendous lead on us in the all time series, we're playing good basketball now and hopefully it lasts so this rivalry could really grow into something big again, but in football?
