BTW KC also played some point in HS as well. Your starting point guard should get 30-35 minutes a game minimum on average.

?
Just for clarification...don't you mean IF we don't sign another point you think Watts will be the starter and then our backup PG duties will be handled by committee (such as swing kc etc)?

This is not, despite the best efforts of the rotting shitheap down I-59, pro sports. I never like to see a Blazer run off just because of a possible "talent" upgrade. Quincy Taylor did everything asked of him and represented my alma mater with honor. If his scholarship was yanked just because some guy who has never worn our colors and never played a D1 college basketball game might be better on the court, I will be most unhappy and will tell Haase so to his face when I see him in a few weeks.

Gene Bartow taught us that honor matters in a dishonorable world. If Q was run off merely for a "talent upgrade," it was a dishonorable act.

Who knows if that is what happened.

Just for the sake of conversation, I would like to say that while I appreciate your opinion, with all due respect, I disagree.

I see your side of the argument and agree it has merit, but in my opinion no one is dishonored. QT received 3 years of education, room and board, etc. from UAB.

Stating the obvious, Coach Haase is a UAB employee who was hired to win games and is paid well to do so. I will not blame Coach for any course of action he chooses, even showing QT the door, that he feels is reasonably necessary to best protect his personal interests as our coach and to further the goal of winning.

All that said, perhaps like many have suggested this is a bad thing which disappointed Coach and QT left under his own will because he didn't like the reduction of minutes that was coming his way.

Maybe the coaches told him his role would be reduced. Maybe Q simply looked at what was coming in and decided that himself.

Even if it came from the coaches, I don't know that he was shown the door. It might be that they were simply honest with him about what they expected to happen and allowed him to decide to stay here or seek another school.

We don't know. All of this stuff is pure speculation.

I am in the front passenger seat with 58-56...Q was a good representative for UAB...if Q wasn't out pillaging the campus and he left because he wanted to..I am alright. But if he was forced its no different then Huffman and Bassett.

RE: Quincy Taylor leaving UAB
At this point, unless we get a top PG who would come in as the unquestioned starter, I'm open to signing the best player available and letting the freshmen and Swing handle the PG duties. I say this because both Haase and at least 1 of his assistants were PGs in college so hopefully a Summer and pre-season can speed the learning curve up a bit - the rules change allows coaches to work with players earlier this year. Also, playing a lot early can't help but pay benefits in the future. Also, there are a greater number of quality players at other positions available. There are a couple of 3 yr players, one locally, that have been getting at good number of looks from others. We may have some early issues but I think they would get better as the season goes along and we may be fine towards the end of the season which is when you need to play your best ball. I'm just a proponent of filling a spot because we have to. If we can get a quality PG, great. If not, lets get the best player available. We'll need experience at the SG/SF spot after our Srs leave...
