List games that won or lost a conference championship
I am curious about the history of the SBC teams. Can ya'll list games that if your team won, they would have won a conference championship. I don't care the outcome, but the games themselves. Late season games are preferable, since the first game of the year doesn't have the same feel as the last.

Here's UTA:

1966 last game of the year. @ Lamar. UTA was 3-0, Lamar was 2-1. Lamar 27 - UTA 7

1967 last game of the year. Hosting Lamar. UTA was 3-0, Lamar was 3-0. UTA 16 - Lamar 10.

1968, 2nd to last game of the year. Hosting Arkansas State. UTA was 2-0, ASU was 2-0-1. ASU 22, UTA 21. Snapped a 15-game home winning streak.

1981 last game of the season. Hosting Lamar. UTA was 3-1. 2nd placed McNeese finished 3-1-1. UTA 31 - Lamar 7.

1984 2nd to last game of the year. @ La Tech. UTA was 3-1, LT was 4-1. LTU 34 - UTA 0.

UTA was 2-3 in these late season situations. There were two other occasions where the first conference game was the decider in the champ race.

1972 1st conference game of the year. Hosting Louisiana Tech. La Tech 35 - UTA 14. UTA finished 4-1.

1979 1st conference game of the year. Hosting McNeese St. McN 14 - UTA 13. UTA finished 4-1.

RE: List games that won or lost a conference championship
One of the most memorable has to be the 2006 MT vs Troy game. We were up 20-7 with about three and a half minutes left(we were 6-0 in conference and about to lock up our first outright conference championship, thus also guaranteeing our first bowl game) and we punted to Troy scored in just over a minute to close the score to 20-14 and proceeded to onside kick which I watched go through the hands of a member of our hands team. To make matters worse, we actually managed to get Troy to 4th and 17 with like 30 seconds left, which they of course managed to convert and score on the subsequent play and win the game 21-20 and we end up sharing the conference title both at 6-1. To compound
matters, we did end up getting our first bowl game...against a really good Central Michigan team that had Dan LaFevour at QB and got beat by two touchdowns meanwhile Troy went to the New Orleans bowl and absolutely drilled Rice(41-17 IIRC) which we would have gone to had we held on against Troy and there's certainly no guarantee we would have beaten Rice, but the way Troy beat them, I like our odds in that hypothetical game so we might have lost two games by virtue of not being able to fall on an onside kick or stop a 4th and 17.

We didn't lost the championship. Just shared it. But they kept us from a bowl with a 8-4 record...

RE: List games that won or lost a conference championship
We had both in 2005.
Our first conference game we lost to Nicholls St. We then went 5-0 the rest of the SLC schedule. We were co-champions with Nicholls but they had the head-to-head.
They got the auto bid for the playoffs but we got a #4 ranking anyway because we had been ranked there all season. We were 9-2 going into the playoffs. NSU was 1 loss, A&M was the other.

2008 was kind of the same
We lost to UCA (transitioning) so had to get the last game vs SHSU @ SHSU; which we won in a hell of a game in OT.
Problem is, that loss to UCA stuck in everyone's crawl because...........
they had a better SLC record but they were ineligible for the title.
SLC fans still won't give us that championship but, hey, we're the ones that got the auto-bid and went to the playoffs.

2009
SELA - we were winning 44-20 with 11:04 left in the 4th and let them tie it and take it to OT; which we lost 51-50 because of a missed PAT.
We win that game we would have tied for the SLC title with an 8-3 record going into the playoffs and been co-champions with McNeese, due to head-to-head win over SFA.

I love the stories. The rivalry and drama are the lifeblood of college sports. I have enjoyed these. Anyone have anymore?

Not a won/loss of a championship, but our loss to WKU last year cost us a ranking and possibly much more.

2011: Louisiana playing up in Jonesboro in a de facto SBC championship game against stAte. Wind was blowing 20 mph in every direction, and our gun slinging QB Blaine Gautier kept trying to throw the deep ball (for ints). Pretty physical game, both Gautier and Aplin had to collect themselves on the sideline after some brutal hits.

We brought a good little away crowd up there. stAte ended up winning, and stormed the field around our QB who got brought to the ground after a late hit. Longest 8-9 hour drive back home.

RE: List games that won or lost a conference championship
Idaho's most famous was 1998 against rival Boise State. It was the 3rd year since the two moved up from 1-AA to the Big West. Winner of that game took the Big West title, a spot in the Humanitarian Bowl, and state bragging rights as the first team from Idaho to make a bowl game since moving up.

Hopefully I'm remembering this right but the game went into OT and BSU got the ball first and scored a touchdown. Idaho then went down and scored and lined up for a PAT. BSU called timeout for some reason and Idaho came out of the timeout and quickly lined up on offense, threw a pass towards the sidelines to a RB, and he scampered in for the 2-pt conversion and the win. Idaho would go on to beat heavily favored Southern Miss in the bowl game.
