The one SBC school that has a weather advantage is APP ST it is cold in Boone late season. The dome can be expanded to 22k for 20 million that seems inevitable.I just hope that is just a beginning and the digdown to get to 26k gets done.

Why not just build an open air stadium? Is your weather that much worse than Washington State's?

Just you wait, if you ever have an early season game in South Georgia at Georgia Southern, you tell us if the heat and humidity don't get to you. Not to mention the millions of gnats about the size of Turkey Hawks.

Boone does get cold in late football season, but you may be able to go over to one of the ski slopes also, so all is good. The leaves in the fall attract hundreds of thousands to the North Carolina mountain High Country around Boone and Blowing Rock. It might almost be worth flying across the country to see.

I read the Wikipedia article about your football history and it was fascinating. Idaho and Montana were in the same conference as UCLA, USC, Cal, Stanford, Oregon, Oregon State, Washington, and Washington State from the 20s until scandal killed it in the late 50s. Some of the West Coast schools cheated and it made Idaho non-competitive. Idaho and Montana did not pursue what became the PAC-12 and were charter members of the Big Sky in 1963. The site where you played previously never had more than 16000 seats. Then it was condemned in 1969 and the current stadium stadium was built on the same site in 1971. The "dome" was built around the preexisting stadium in 1975.

I'd think getting it up to 30,000 would be a big step in getting to your ultimate destination.

Yup, we used to be in the old Pacific Coast Conference with Montana. Actually, the two schools were travel partners in basketball --- for instance, one night one at UCLA and the other at Southern Cal. Southern Cal took the train and made it to little 'ol Moscow and the town shut down to fill the stands to watch the Trojans and Vandals in grid action. That Wikipedia overview really is not too shabby on our history. The Dome is cozy, and loud. It can get up to 20-24K in future expansion. I loved the old outdoor stadium (Neale Stadium) and it used to be tucked away in a bowl surrounded by huge pines. That wooden structure was burned down and in that site up went the Dome, for our nasty weather in Nov. It is small and cozy. I have had opposing teams' players and fans actually remark how they liked the deafening noise and the electric atmosphere. We are working on facilities. It will get there. We already see improvements with Petrino. I thought the spring was a great success. The guy is intense and determined to turn it around. He wants to move up the ladder --- great! That is who we need. Akey (fired) was content in living out his career in the Pullman-Moscow area; being a Cougar, then Vandal. You have to get HCs who want to build, win and move on.

The dome is to small but plans to expand to twenty two thousand are very reasonable only twenty million.

The long term plans could get capacity to thirty thousand more if a horseshoe gets built at one end.The second phase or digdown gets the dome to 26k which I think is a minimum .

When you consider this younger generation will not sit in cold or rainy weather maybe a midsize dome is perfect.
The KB Dome will never be perfect of course a new midsize dome probably would be for most mid majors. The ideal dome would start at 30k and be expandable to 45k for a mid major.

Idaho being a rural school most likely will never have to take the roof off which is possible. The dome if fully expanded would be unique in a good way not a look at me blue carpet way.

are you talking football, or basketball ?

In all seriousness ..... how are they getting more seats in there? IIRC the dome has almost NO extra padding room around the field and existing seats.

Domes are for homos. No reason to play football in a dome anywhere.
