Did the power 5 conferences create a cap for themselves when deciding how to divide up their income from the playoff system? Is it also maxed at 12? If not then they certainly have to share the blame for more fcs move ups.

I'd be completely shocked if they created any cap for themselves. They aren't going to do anything that would limit the amount of money they could make, but they will certainly do everything within their power to limit the amount the rest of us can make.

From all indications, there's going to be an equal distribution of the money set aside for the contract conferences, save for the revenue form their contract bowls and the APR component. They'll equally split about $258M (nearly $52M each) in their share of the playoff money, before their other revenue. After including the contract bowl revenue, playoff revenue, and appearance bonuses, schools in the contract conferences will get anywhere from $6M each (ACC) to $10M each (XII) depending on which conference they belong to and how many teams they can get into the new system.

It was rumored previously that in order to receive a full payout of nBCS money you had to have 12 members...otherwise you would get a certain amount per team. I think its still being negotiated because obviously there are 3 conferences with 14 members and they want more than someone with 12...and a conference with 10 members should not receive the same amount as a conference with 14....I would say TBD.

What's old is new again -- the Pac-8 and Big Ten had this kind of argument in the 1970s over whether the Pac-8 should get the same share of Rose Bowl money as the Big Ten even though the Big Ten had more schools.

(IIRC, the Big Ten "won" that argument, but it became moot and the shares became equal when the Pac-8 became the Pac-10.)

Every indication is that it was determined months ago. Other than a few message board speculators, the indications are that it is split equally. Noone complained when the SEC, ACC and Big 12 had 12 and the Big East had 8. Each conference still had one champion.
