I posted this on the "NMSU All Sports" thread, but maybe I should have posted here.

How about making NMST an all sports member and adding Army as a football only.

National following. Beautiful road trip. And they are already FBS.

Got to give them a special TV deal to even start the conversation.

In related news the sky is blue and the grass is green...

Now back to my original question.

What's the benefit of the Sun Belt to Army?

Travel and expenses related to travel are not really an issue for the Academies. They probably prefer a broader footprint. Look at what Navy signed up for when it agreed to join the, then, Big East football. Idaho isn’t Boise State, but it’s still in Idaho. New Mexico isn’t San Diego, but it’s still in the southwest.

It’s more about recruitment (into the military not athletic recruiting) and exposure for Army. A broader footprint provides deeper exposure in terms of different locales. As far as recruiting demographics, the Army isn’t out recruiting any “Fortunate Sons” they typically recruit men and women who don’t come from affluent families or surroundings and small, southern, rural locales can be a plus in that regard.

The SBC offers access to the high profile G5 Champion bowl and money that is not available to Independents. The extra money may not be an incentive, but the pathway to the G5 access bowl should be. That type of exposure would be a HUGE recruitment bump. With Army’s typical OOC schedule, if it could go undefeated it would almost certainly be in the conversation for the G5 bowl.

Army football could be competitive in the SBC, which is important to Army.

If the SBC could land Army that would be a big “suck on this” to CUSA and the teams that left the SBC to go there.

It doesn’t hurt to make the call but I would bet that the SBC leadership didn’t. You guys need to let your Commish know that he needs to get West Point on the horn.

I think NMSU will be all sports. IMO they should be.

And I think Missouri St. Will be all sports but needs a year. They are worth the wait. JMO

They seem like a wildcard here; already in a great hoops conference but seemingly interested in doing more on the gridiron. That could potentially make them someone's associate member in football, but I doubt it would be the SBC. Who knows?

I think Nova's IA possibilites ended the day the BE was announced it would no longer be a IA power conference. If they weren't willing to jump IA like UConn did while the BE had a BSC spot I don't see them doing it now.

After the Army left CUSA, didn't they say they would never join a conference again?

Arkansas State, Arkansas-Little Rock, Louisiana, South Alabama, and FIU (and for one year Troy) all traveled to NMSU for Olympic sports as members of the Sun Belt.

Arkansas State, Arkansas-Little Rock, Louisiana, ULM, USA, Troy, FIU, FAU, MTSU, WKU, UNT all traveled to Denver for Olympic sports.

When you can add a quality member you add them and deal with the travel. If that were not the case YOU would be posting, guys you are only coming to Boone one time a year, the travel isn't that bad, we fit the profile even though we are an outlier.

Then why wasn't NMSU added as all-sports instead of football only? Why didn't it work between the Sun Belt and NMSU last time? We don't need them for all sports. We only need them for football so we can get to 12 and have a conference championship game. They're way too far for the eastern schools FOR UMPTEEN SPORTS no matter how often and even too far for most of the western schools. We have a nice little footprint with the exception of Idaho, NMSU and Texas St. Football alone would be manageable. Nothing against them, I really like their logo/mascot. They're pretty good at basketball, but that's it.

It wasn't that it "didn't work out" before it was that NMSU had a chance to join closer schools. UTEP was still in the WAC when they left. UTEP is about an hour away and they had played 82 times in football and they were supposed to turn that down?

Most likely if NMSU joins your baseball team will never set foot in Las Cruces because we will probably go to a 30 game home/home three game series schedule in baseball.

Men's and women's basketball, volleyball, soccer once every two years.

Cross country, track, golf never.

If you can't afford that, you might as well stay in the Southern.

You think they are good at basketball and that's it you are ignorant. They have a high RPI in baseball and women's volleyball. They can teach you about success in some of the sports you are bringing in.

Women's volleyball? LOL. Doubt they couldl 'teach' us much in baseball either. Personal attacks are unnecessary.

That's not a personal attack that's a statement of fact. NMSU is successful across a broad range of sports, if you think basketball is all they offer you are ignorant.

If that makes you feel attacked I'm sorry but your statement does not reflect reality.
