I'm a total band nerd and I wear that badge with honor. I teach my students to do the same because it's certainly a skill that many of their peers can't do.

That's cool. I wasn't in band, but I can imagine those who were unable to make the trip were pretty upset, I know I would have been. FWIW MT's band is huge, usually numbering well over 300.

Brace yourself though, band smack is a real thing on this board, now that MT is leaving, one of you new guys are going to have to challenge Troy for who has the best band in the conference.

Also, most of the board doesn't care, but that doesn't stop the few who do from talking about it... a lot. Hell, I think most would love to have band smack right now as opposed to what's been going on for the last month or so.

Whether MTSU or Troy... Once JSU accepts the inevitable then JSU will have the best band in the Sun Belt. Hands down...

Congrats to the Ga Southern band though...

Band of Blue will be busy being one of the best bands in CUSA.

Drumline is really good.... JSU always considered them as one of the best.

Nothing, I think he just wanted to "humbly" point out that ours have won 3/4 championships in recent history. But I do have a few recent cheerleader friends that have graduated, and I can attest to their beauty.

They look good in the picture, they very well may be the hottest in the Sun Belt, they may not be, the national championships are nice for the students involved but one has nothing to do with the other. A team full of absolute bombshells could be an average squad and a national championship squad could be full of girls who were average looking at best.

I know most Troy fans don't think JSU will receive an offer, if ever, but you can't deny that the Sun Belt would have 3 of the best bands in the country if we did.

Let's talk about Georgia Southern's cheerleaders...

I never once disagreed with you. You are exactly right, I was just saying I think he was using that as an opportunity to brag. I don't really think he thinks "hotness" qualifies you for "competitiveness."

Just like everything else.

You may march better than TROY but you will never have our sound!

I agree...

One of my personal favorites, the only video that really captures how huge the sound of the band is. This is part 2, part 1 is on vimeo too.

MTSU by far.... No offense to the JMU dudes, but JSU's and MTSU's drumlines are way better.

Not every game, just games we win (which sometimes seems like every game).
Our band usually hovers at about 230 members. It's not the biggest but pretty good. We definitely don't put out the sound that Troy or JSU puts out but we can hold our own. I look forward to actually seeing other bands in Paulson.

I'm actually an alumni of the Troy band and teach high school band as a career. I'm pretty sure JMU (yes I know they aren't in the conference but are being considered) has a pretty kick butt band that could give Troy a run for their money.

Have you never seen the Marching Royal Dukes! I am a graduate of Troy's music program as well and I will be the first to say that they are ever bit as good as TROY! They have a fine Marching Program!

I've never seen them in person, but I'm aware that they're pretty great. We did hire Robert W. Smith to come be director of bands at Troy after Dr. Long retired. He was on the James Madison faculty before he came to Troy.

Dude I know, I went through the change from Long, to Ford, then to Smith. Wish he was still over it!

I have to agree that they are. If JSU was to come to the SUNBELT, The Belt would have quite a few very good programs in it. Comparing them all against each other is like comparing apples to oranges. Now enough band, lets talk some more football.

Appreciate it, but you need to keep up a little better, Middle Tennessee has less than 100 days remaining as a Sun Belt member.

Not pissing. It's pride. I don't know why people always want to call people out for having pride. And if having pride is a "complex" well then I'm guilty.

Just saw this video. Taken from a camera on one of the bass drums. Pretty cool except for the music over the whole video. :/

TROY has a great program, and I am glad to be a proud to be a product of it , but there are many out there that are just as good. That is the problem with TROY's recent alumni that I have seen. They have tunnel vision. Watch other programs, JMU,JSU,WCU,MTSU, RCC and many other on all levels have very fine programs. Even ULM of the old days had a fine program!

Just because a few people are talking up their bands doesn't mean they don't see others as being good.

Troy and MTSU were always neck and neck, and JSU has a great band, my favorite from JSU:

This is the only reason why I would be in Favor of adding JSU... I love their band. And they really push the SOTS to be better...

This performance was at a high school stadium in Atlanta (Mceachern) they do a lot of performances in Atlanta area. Wish the SOTS did. But they will now that GA State is here IMO.
