Done deal. TU in, in all sports in 2014. Dr Upham stated that the official papers have been signed and has passed a vote of the university officials.

A good move for TU.....good for football and VERY good for basketball. This should make Manning's job a lot easier, at least in getting recruits. I think the AAC will be one of the top conferences in basketball it's very first year, 2014. The 4 holdover Big East teams are all pretty good, add Memphis, an improving Houston, SMU,Tulsa, maybe UCF teams and you have a pretty darn good conference to say the least.....4 or 5 invites to the Big Dance wouldn't surprise me at all.......could even be more!!!! Definitely have a chance for a win or two or more against Top 50 teams during the conference schedule. Contrary to what some people say on the CUSA board this is definitely a step forward......the AAC will be seen, already is, as a semi major conference and football will be helped by how basketball is seen. No one can say the AAC basketball conference is Mid Major, therefore it will be harder to hang that tag on the AAC in football to the general public. If the conference can win a couple games in football against Top 25 teams in the first few years, it will pretty well secure it's position as somewhere between the majors and mid majors. All in all, it was a darn good move that will pay dividends in the future!!!

RE: TU and nBE Announcement Coming In . . . . .
IMO it will be a three tier system. There will be the Big 5 (or more aptly the Big one and the lesser 4) high majors, the almost Big 2 (AAC, MWC), a slight step down, but with perception and recruiting advantages over the remaining pie pieces. Then the also rans (CUSA, MAC, SB). But the AAC will have media, recruiting, geographic and perception advantages over the MWC and the others not in the B5.

Our concern now should be whether we can internally have a program that can step to the next level - a BCS level program. We can't just do things the way it was done in the past - especially in attendence and infrastructure. We'll need to have a building boom in facilities, a compliant local media and a city/region willing to help and allow the program to go forward and prosper. Also, the university needs to begin looking at itself as more than just "little TU" IMO.

You are absolutely right.....as long as TU sees itself as the ugly stepchild, that's the way the public will see it. Pump it up Tulsa.....TU has to be talking about TU.......pay for ads, like.....#25 ranked team in the country, plays football here, etc. They really do need a marketing person.......a real marketing person!!!!
