Georgia Southern's move to Division I is Questioned
From the Augusta Times

http://chronicle.augusta.com/sports/scot...questioned

The author makes fun of our league, our bowl tie-ins, and calls out several teams by name (including Western Kentucky, South Alabama, NMSU, and Idaho). He could have expressed his thoughts without taking potshots at the members and our league (now their league) as a whole.

We've always been division 1.

Quote:Each of the past two seasons under coach Jeff Monken they’ve reached the national semifinals.

We've reached the semi-finals the last 3 years.

This guy is obviously a "FBS=UGA" kinda guy. That would explain why he is taking shots at everyone in the league.

Quote:"I hope it works out,” he said. “I love the Southern Conference and it’s all about tradition. Something new to me doesn’t sound that good to me. But all the students were really pumped up about it.”

Southern Conference has traditions? What traditions? The two powers/traditions have LEFT the conference.

Quote:“I just wonder do you get that much more notoriety or exposure playing on a Thursday night against a team that nobody around here knows anything about than you would playing for and perhaps winning the national championship in what I still call I-AA?” Douglas said.

LOL!! The FCS Championship game gets a fraction of the tv viewership of the lowest tier bowl game. I bet the same is true with with Thursday night games.

Some hack trying to win his Pulitzer. Not only did he do all of the above, he called it "our move to D1" (I know, common mistake but still 03-banghead) and had a couple of other errors about us. Pretty crappy article.

Haha...yeah! This is one of the logos the university uses in various capacities. I like our branding because it focuses more on the sword (and shield) of a Trojan rather than the head or helmet of a Trojan like everyone else.

Articles like this about the SBC are pretty standard across the country. What is funny is that some of us are saying the same things about Georgia Southern and playing a program that we don't care about or have any history with.

Well at least they didn't make the "O" a condom.

This is the truth and the key to the market perception of all of our programs outside our immediate markets.

CUSA has a better brand perception, but take a look at the schools:

3 start-ups in ODU, Charlotte, and UTSA
Then there's FAU, FIU, N Texas, UAB, UTEP, and Rice who are all strangers to winning.

S. Miss, La Tech, and Marshall are the current anchors of the conference and MTSU and WKU are good additions.

The current Sun Belt with JMU will be as good as the CUSA, MAC, and MW conferences and have a good chance of surpassing them by the end of the decade in football.

For any school in a G5 conference, the path is the same:win your conference and carefully schedule beatable OOC C5 opponents to achieve the highest ranking possible at the end of the season for the AQ Big Bowl - later playoffs.

There is no longer any difference between the nBE, MW, MAC, CUSA, and SBC and there never was any difference to C5 fans and media.

As I have had very little to no dealings with Troy University, I can honestly say that to me it was fresh and made me chuckle. I can only assume that you get the old condom jokes on a regular basis. I shall refrain from them in the future as I see that it is a dead horse that no longer needs any beating.

Which Southern Conference tradition are we talking about?

The Southern Conference that had Alabama, Georgia, Georgia Tech?

The Southern Conference that had Virginia, Duke, and North Carolina?

The Southern Conference that had West Virginia and East Carolina?

The Southern Conference that had Marshall?

Or is he talking about the Southern Conference that had to take Elon and Samford to just get by?

ASUTodd excels at making snide remarks like this. We get to enjoy them on the MMB all the time.

The SoCon tradition is you get in, you grow up, you leave 04-rock

Some schools get stuck in first gear.

He is doing his job...writing a column that gets people talking about it and linking it to forums.

It is not very well written, but we are still talking about it.

Well, I'd say it's a good thing they won't have to worry about that then, aye?
