Thanks for sharing. Great pics. Sounds like a memorable game day experience. Can not wait to travel to Troy. I always get there a day or so early and walk the campus and visit with the people. Southern hospitality is very special. Trojans and Vandals --- historic warriors.
Surprised we have not heard from Georgia Southern fans telling us about taking some water from
"beautiful Eagle Creek" to away games and putting it on the opposing teams field.
I will let them tell you what "beautiful Eagle Creek" is.

It's a drainage ditch where we dump the bodies of dead App State fans to decompose. We get off scott-free each time because even law enforcement won't wade into that mess...

1) The team enters the field while fireworks shoot and Back in Black plays. Then the band kicks off the official fight song Hi Hi Yikas (loosely translates from an old German drinking song "Mountain Vagabond).
2) The band plays the Olympic Fanfare whenever App kicks off. Everyone in the crow points in the direction of the kick. 3) We do a back and forth "App" (West stands) "State" (East Stands) cheer very similar to the old cheer described by Tx State (keeps going until one side gives up).
4) The post game concert given by the band always features the Tennessee Waltz...a great arrangement.
I had to laugh in 2007 when I heard this. In fact, lots of App's "traditions" were familiar at that game. Maybe that was always a "tradition", but there were never enough hillbillies present to effect it until after 2005?

And it is where GaSo football players bathe themselves. Is that how you sometimes get talent? The blood of App State fans will make you stronger?

No, they do it to keep they Herculean immune systems up to snuff.
-The band enters and marches all around the field, stopping in front of the student section (the main student section is the entire front of the home sideline.) when the band begins to play, the students hold their hands up to "conduct." The band crescendos and decrescendos with awkward and random notes, all the while the students move their arms about as if to conduct the group. It builds and builds and finally, at full volume, they resolve the note. The students go nuts. Then there is a few seconds of silence, the unmistakable snare tap tap tap tap. and then they play the fight song.
-On kickoffs, the crowd points in the direction of the kick if we're kicking (the opposite if we're receiving), jumping up and down and yelling the classic "OOOOHHHH!!!" The crowd crescendoes as the kicker approaches the ball and goes "BOOM!" when foot meets leather.
-The "App....State" chant" is pretty self explanatory.
-Fan pushups.
This video shows some of these
Then of course you have the tradition of just being loud as hell on defense. It might not be much into the top 100 largest stadiums, but The Rock is likely top 40 in noise and atmosphere.

We do the back and forth thing as well with "Arkansas State" and "Red Wolves". A popular phrase that remains from the old days is "Give 'em Hell Red!". We howl after touchdowns. The student section and tailgating have exploded the last few years but winning is a tradition that tends to help those areas.
A lot of our "traditions" are new because we were forced to change mascots. We are all VERY pleased with our new mascot from a marketing standpoint and we kept the traditional logo as well. With and Indian mascot, our traditions were slowly eroded and neutered for being politically incorrect. We went from a chief riding a horse around the field, an Indiand Brave throwing spears and an Indian Princess to the "Indian Family" standing around doing nothing for fear of criticism. No More tomahawk chop, no more Indian drums or war cries.
We did retain our fight song with a lsight modification for the mascot name change and I think our fanbase does the fight song during games as well as anyone in our conference.
Seriously, this thread reminds me why I am so happy to have added App., Ga. So. and Texas State. They get it when it comes to playing football in the south. I hope USA and Ga. St. develop the same kind of traditions and atmosphere once they have been a round a while.

We play the Jaws theme on kickoffs and the student body interlocks arms and sways back and forth in unison.
We have your standard 3rd down bell. Your standard "Another...Red Wolves...FIRST DOWN!" chant.
We have fireworks after scores and after victories
These are the "Naked Guys"
Our Twitter hashtags are #WeHowl, #RedWolvesRising, #PackPride, #HowlYes, #ArkSt, #WolvesUp, #RedWolves, #AState, #stAte and probably 5 or 6 more for inconsistency.
Smoking is not permitted on campus so at halftime you'll see a line marching down to do the traditional "stand by the highway".
Lost traditions....
Freshmen used to have to wear a beanie and tip it to "Clyde" an Indian statue....gone.
We used to have large static homecoming displays rather than a parade and they were often marvels of engineering and creativity....gone.
Clyde isn't gone. They just moved him to the third floor of the union.
Yea, UL has being using something similar to the REDWOLVES sign since the 80's.

I will let them tell you what "beautiful Eagle Creek" is.
The San Marcos Springs come out of the ground on campus and form the headwaters of the San Marcos River.
Our team used to travel with a jug of the crystal clear water. We don't do it anymore.

You failed to tell them about the Loud Crowd and the Diamond Sweethearts

GATA
You mean the 'tradition' you copied from Air Force or Auburn?
We have a bald eagle, dummy. Not a falcon or a brown eagle.
It's been flying longer? I don't care if it's a chicken hawk; the idea of a live bird flying around a stadium didn't originate in Statesboro, GA. And since I'm talking to a troll and not a real fan; a bald eagle is a good mascot for copycats. The Peregrine Falcon and the Golden Eagle are true raptors, predators through and through. The bald eagle is a carrion eater, a glorified buzzard.
Nice, dissing the symbol of American Freedom (Which is our Flying Bald Eagle's name by the way).
Here is what happens when a hawk versus a Bald Eagle:
Bald and Golden Eagles will feed on available food already dead, but they are both True Raptor predators.
Bald Eagles attack just about everything from cats, dogs, rabbits, fish and even people and other birds.
This tough enough for you?
Oh, and Bald Eagles eat Peregrine Falcons.... when they can catch them.
