RE: NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament becoming the BIG EAST Invitational...
yeah, so much for it being a down year for the Big East. Have a chance if things play out right for the Big East to get the most units for the 6th straight year(right now 2 behind Big Ten- guaranteed to get 1 more on Saturday with Marquette/Syracuse). If Louisville also makes the final 4 and Big Ten loses out, Big East is #1 by themselves. 18-16 right now for Big Ten. Only 2 other double digit unit conferences- A10 with 12 and P12 with 10.
A10 despite La Salle losing tonight- clinched now being the #3 conference this year by units(at least a tie).

BB is what the BE was always good at... no surprise. I see the Cuse winning this tourney.

Big East now assured of a final 4 team for 5th straight year- longest streak since ACC had 6 straight years from 1997-2002.

yeah. It's a shame we got FGCU'd in rd 1 or we could have had a real shot at having 3 BE teams in the final 4 again.

RE: NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament becoming the BIG EAST Invitational...
On the Football Field & Basketball Court the BIG EAST took a backseat to nobody...even after the Miami, Virginia Tech & Boston College departures it was successful in both sports. But the media drove this image that it was weaker on the field of play.
The BIG EAST problem was 2 fold, the 3 different agendas, it terrible boardroom skills as compared to the other BCS Leagues and it lack for forward thinking. Now even though my school will be in the ACC in 2014 I will always be a Old BIG EAST guy. It is fitting that in the league swansong it wins it BCS Bowl Game...has a winning Bowl Record and has a guarantee of a rep in the Final Four...I hope after this weekend that half of the Final Four will be BIG EAST...if that happens Dave Gavitt will be smiling.

THIS GROUP of Big East schools will never be matched again for greatness in Basketball.Yes We didn't win the NCAA tournament every year as We beat on each other so much that sometimes there wasn't enough juice left after MSG tournament. But No One could say Big East schools from top to bottom including WVU did not lay everything on the line when they hit the floor. This is the Last Great run for this BIG EAST. Let's go out with a Bang !

RE: NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament becoming the BIG EAST Invitational...
Amazing ACC Stat:
Since 2004, only Duke and UNC have made it past the Sweet 16 from the ACC.
UNC has done it 6 times with 2 national titles.
Duke only 1 time during their 2010 national title (and maybe tonight).
No other ACC school has made an Elite-8 since 2004. Mind boggling.
In that same time, 8 different Big East schools made the Elite-8, and 6 of those schools made the Final Four.

If Marquette gets by Cuse on saturday, the C7 Big East will have 5 final fours in 10 years. Going into this season we held the same stat.

RE: NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament becoming the BIG EAST Invitational...
It's really a shame about the Big East. It was the best basketball conference ever. It'll get splintered into 2 weaker conferences(anything is weaker than the best ever), plus then the 4 going to the ACC. Wouldn't shock me in years to see Syracuse/Louisville, UConn, and then one of the C7 schools all taking the conference titles. What's going to be so great is to see these teams now facing off in the NCAA tourney against each other with no bracketing rules protecting matchups.

Except for 2011 when BE put 11 in tourney!! UC lost in 2nd Round to eventual champ UConn that year.

What was really telling about that Cincinnati team...the only teams that beat them & UConn that year was other BIG EAST schools...both schools went undefeated OOC.

Before you get too carried away:
Cincinnati 10 seed lost to 7 seed Creighton-MVC
Pitt 8 seed lost to 9 seed Wichita St.-MVC
Notre Dame 7 seed lost to 10 seed Iowa St.-Big 12
Villanova 9 seed lost to 8 seed UNC-ACC
Georgetown 2 seed lost to 15 seed FGCU-Atlantic Sun
Only 3 of 8 survived the first round. As a favorite, BE schools were 3-3 in the first round. The East semi-finals were the first BE wins against a higher seed. 1985 was a great year for the BE. This year, not particularly impressive yet.

Mostly celebrating the accomplishment of the Beast in it's history, not just this, it's last as the league will splinter apart and some leaving for another conference. RIP Beast and good luck to future and past members.

Kickass football conference too when Miami, Va Tech, Syracuse, Boston College were all either competitive or at the top of the NCAA throughout the 90s, and then in the mid-2000s when Louisville, Rutgers, Cincinnati, West Virginia and South Florida were all highly ranked.
Rest in Peace, Big East.

The big east isn't dead. Quit saying rest in peace. It's like holding a funeral for a person going through a divorce.

BE had too many good programs for its own good. I think DePaul, St. John's, Providence, Seton Hall and to a lesser extent Cincinnati suffered once the BE megasized in 2005. All will probably be better off separated. C7 and ACC refugees will still be in outstanding bb conferences. Cincinnati was fine before BE and should be fine afterwards. UConn will probably be fine as well although they will probably be the ones most missing the old rivalries. USF never was and that probably won't change. Rutgers and WVU have good bb homes as well.

I'd agree. And Marquette needed a lot of help to get out of the first round (and a bit in the second). Syracuse and Louisville have looked great, but any conference can have 1-2 good schools. The Big 10 still has OSU, Michigan, and Michigan St. A lot can still happen.
