EKU does not have the stadium. Roy Kidd Stadium holds 20K and is basically a one sided stadium, with like 1K on the other side for visitors.

Thats plenty of capacity to start the jump now and start construction. It's also the easiest design to expand on, you can do anything you want on the other side of the field where the 1K seat side is.

Capacity yes, but it's a dump. Would take a lot of money to get it where it needs to be and would take several years to get there.

Their stadium could quickly become FBS ready by building up the "visitor" grandstands.

I would yell for a WKU vs. EKU game if they moved up. I would fully support the move, as that rivalry would kick ass being brought back.

I can't imagine that EKU could move up successfully. Their niche is FCS. Remember, they are located only 20 miles from UK in Lexington. That's not a recipe for success. Ask Eastern Michigan about being FBS and located less than 10 miles from the University of Michigan.
There's an FBS program in Lexington?

Basketball only.

If WKU leaves there are a lot of options geographically, what worries me is if any of the others in west were to leave as well or instead, say ArkSt or ULL because options are more limited west of the Mississippi, leaving TxSt and the football-only/non-football member out on an island.

I just want EKU for the Rivalry. My personal opinion on that aside, EKU would be a terrible add. But... But... The Rivalry!

That EKU Stadium reminds me of Charleston Southern's with more stands. Yuck.

If the SunBelt loses more than WKU it will be these Southwest teams. If just WKU it will be just one of these Southwest teams.

I hope you are right 22, but I for one am not willing to speculate on what this group headed by Capn Karl would do next. Who knows.

Correct. Not an option.

Going to be interesting to see what the conference presidents do if and when WKU and/or whoever else leaves.
If this thread is any indication there may be blood.

No optimism involved. Don't have any ties to these southwest schools. But you did come across a relevant point, balance. Ask yourself who the other team/teams besides WKU would be that could/will leave. Now Think,we added 2 FCS and 2 BCS and now for balance 2 teams with TV Market possibilities. That would not be liberty.

With JMU's decent fan base and their average attendance sitting at 25,000 THIS is what I would like to see unfold.

WEST:

-Arkansas State
-Idaho (football only)
-New Mexico State
-Texas State
-University of Louisiana - Lafayette
-University of Louisiana - Monroe

EAST:

-Appalachian State
-Georgia Southern
-Georgia State
-James Madison (football only)
-South Alabama
-Troy

I like your optimism. Glad you think you already know how the Sun Belt will act. With Idaho and NMSU on board, additions in the west make far more sense. When WKU leaves, adding Liberty would just expand the footprint even further. Adding a school in the west would at least help a little with travel.

At this point, Florida is the only state outside of the footprint that needs to be expanded into, unfortunately there are no viable candidates presently.

What makes you speak so confidently that Liberty is next? Being the only private school and the only religiously affiliated school being discussed by a conference that is entirely public schools, I wouldn't feel nearly as positive.

It's obviously all speculation at this point, but it appears for now that only wku is leaving..if more leave I actually believe that helps our chances

JMU is evidently not interested in going FBS or at least into the Sun Belt right now, so doesn't do us any good
to list them on a want list. We may want them, but that is all it is right now.
