Track & Field update from this weekend
Here are some highlights from this weekend's Victor Lopez Classic, held at Holloway Field (Rice Track & Soccer Stadium):

Women

Sharae Robinson won both the hammer throw and discus, while Claire Uke won the shot put, and was second in the discus. Very nice.

Fifth year senior Keltie John (from Canada) continued her comeback with a solid third place finish in the 800 meters, running a 2:12.71. Freshman Imani Mark was fourth in 2:13.06, and senior Lillian Nwora just behind in fifth (2:13.08).

Redshirt sophomore Heather Olson showed that she is ahead of schedule, finishing fourth in the 1500 meters (4:32.62).

Senior Marie Thompson won the 5,000 meters, and freshmen twins Chrissy and Audrey Wassef (Clear Lake HS) were second and third, respectively, in the 10,000 meters. The Wassefs were 1 minute (about 270 meters) behind the leader at the halfway mark, but managed to close to within 5 seconds at the end.

RE: Track & Field update from this weekend
Men

Almost crickets, but a few decent performances:

John Cavallo won the 5,000 meters (14:37.51).

Travis Roberts won the 3,000 meter steeplechase (9:29.20).

Henry Giles was 2nd in the 10,000 meters (32:39.99).

Tyler Wiest was 4th in the high jump (1.93 meters).

Rice freshman Evan Karokolis, the new Rice record holder in the javelin, did not participate.

The highly anticipated debut of freshman 400 meter runner Hodson Harding (from Canada) was limited to the 2nd leg of the 4 x 400 meter relay. He looked quite rusty, as he split 50.2 (on my watch).

But, in the decathlon, held Tuesday and Wednesday, Clayton Chaney won the event, setting a personal best.

High School

Rice signee Katie Jensen (College Park) was second in both the 1500 (4:32.59) and 3000 (9:44.65). That 1500 places her #3 in the nation, while the 3000 places her #2 nationally. The winner of both races, Sandie Raines of Kingwood is #2 in the 1500 and #1 in the 3000.
