Pitt just signed their coach to an extension, so the USC job I guess will still be open. I'd imagine they'd go after Shaka too. Both jobs UCLA and USC I think Smart would find very attractive.

Time for me to be an arsehole with split loyalties, but isn't this like the JMU fans fapping to ODU losing to Georgia Southern a few months ago?

I want Shaka to stay, because a) VCU fan, and b) as an ODU fan too, I want Mike Rhoades to come in and rip stuff up. He's got a hell of an upside and he's been around a hot program enough to translate it to an arena and fanbase that deserves its own buzz.

It's not. You are allowed to delight in your arch rivals misery. Lord knows others have been delighting in ours all season long.

You have to enjoy the little things, like vcu getting their arses handed to them and their cocky annoying fanbase getting a reality check.

But in the grand scheme, we really can't talk smack to vcu fans because they beat us this year head to head and won yet another game in the tourney (even if it was a gift by the selection committee) while we had the worst year in our programs history.

So we should at least take some joy out of vcu getting smacked down.

As for jmu fans, they can't talk a single word of smack because we are undefeated against them in football, own them (this year aside) in basketball and stole their supposed bid to fbs. They've got nothing for us at all.

As a vcu/odu duel fan, you are entitled to feel however you wish, but you'd be wise not to tell odu fans to not delight in vcu's failure, we have to enjoy the little things in a year like this one.

I hope Shaka is gone mainly because there fans are SOOOOOOOOOO convinced he is going to be there for life and that "money isn't important to him" and "he loves Richmond" etc.

Of course he loves Richmond, that's who pays his salary! What's he's gonna say, I hate eveyone from Richmond, they all smell like rotten sewer water and the average iq of their fans is barely above plant life". Just because he's thinking it doesn't mean he should say it. All kidding aside, he probably does like Richmond, but enough to pass up one of the crown jewel jobs in college bball and an extra 1.5-2 mil a YEAR? I'm sure he will get to enjoy Los Angeles as well, I mean it is a slight downgrade from the former confederate capital and steaming cesspool that is Richmond, but somehow, someway, I think he'll manage.

As I said before, the only real question is whether ucla wants to offer him, brad Stevens or some other big name we aren't currently discussing. They have their pick of the litter. Like it or not, Shaka is the "rock star" Blaine said he was, he is the face of that vcu program. If he leaves, even if Rhoades takes over, he isn't going to land the same level of recruits Shaka has been landing lately.

Not until he proves himself first. Just a fact.

There is no comparison to losing in the FCS playoffs to a small southern school than it is to see a team lose a NCAA basketball tournament game with a coach that's an absolute media and attention whore. As a Monarch fan it is indeed lovely to them blown out on national television from just brute force as Michigan did so eloquently (no gimmick system needed). And I hope their coach leaves, and I hope their conferences is continued to be raided to the point they would be in no different spot than if they stayed in the CAA.

Also, this just is not the place you're going to get any love for VCU, so it shouldn't be expected. And Mike Rhodes would be an okay hire at best, we can do better than that.

My brother did get his undergrad at VCU and his Masters at ODU, so I suppose it is POSSIBLE, just not recommended. He usually wears ODU gear, but did show up at my parents' house today at MY Birthday dinner wearing a VCU sweatshirt, only to receive unmerciless crap about the game, yesterday. Not that I think he has ever attended a basketball game of any sort, except possibly while he was at Michigan State at the same time as Magic Johnson.

I sit with a duel fan at football games. They are very few and far in between. Yesterday's beat down was beautiful thing to see. Love the title of this thread btw.

They should reap a lot of benefits from all the defections. 12 NCAA units this year for the A10 + any more gained from further LaSalle victories. Shaka probably isn't going anywhere this year unless he gets the UCLA job... but they'd be stupid not to buy Brad Stevens instead.

I will say that I know quite a few VCU fans who are closet ODU Football fans. Some of my best friends are VCU basketball fans, but we curse each other's success under our breath. :)

My mistake.....I think I just misread your post....my bad!

I refuse on principle (and for reasons of intellectual hygiene) to visit the vcuramnation site. But I am willing to bet that there is at least one thread over there obliviously complaining about the unfairness of having been forced to play Michigan at Auburn Hills.

I also suppose there are legitimate psychiatric explanations for dual ODU-VCU loyalties. But hopefully for these poor souls modern science will someday invent the cure.

Anytime VCU's "foul until the refs get tired of calling it" system doesn't work, they're screwed.

I might have laid this out early in my time here but I'm too lazy to look for the post, so here's the Reader's Digest version: Raised in Tidewater, followed ODU and U.Va. as a kid, but when time came to pick colleges, I was ready to be on my own and ended up at VCU. Spent a few years of treading water there, got a part-time job back home that I thought was good enough to drop out of college for. It wasn't, but it took me three years to figure that one out. Once I realized I wasn't getting a decent job without a degree, I went back to school and finished up at ODU. Spent more time and have more memories at VCU but actually did something with my life at ODU. So it's a wash.

I don't want you guys to stop hating VCU; believe me, if I went to only one of them, I'd hate the other with unbridled passion. But that's not how it worked out; significant sweat equity and money went into both schools, so I have to love them both, as f**ked as it sounds.

I'm just pointing out that if it's lame for the JMU jokers at the ToiletZone to get off on Georgia Southern beating ODU when they're apparently destined never to beat ODU in football, it's also lame for fans of a 5-win ODU team to get but so excited about VCU losing. In the end, VCU had 27 wins and reached the round of 32 for the third straight year, while ODU ... ew.

Hopefully that changes next season with a decent coach and an uptick in competition, because both schools need each other to hate. Even going to VCU, I knew ODU was a far better rival than Richmond, because ODU and VCU have so much in common, while RU was a bunch of rich kids from the Northeast who just happen to occupy a plot of land near a country club that landed just inside the Richmond city limits.

Finally, the only time I'm orgasming during an NCAA tournament game is when they show the FGCU coach's wife. And occasionally the girl in the Bud Light blind date commercial.

My guess is he's leveraging Minnesota and VCU to see how much power he can get from UCLA. If it's not what he's looking for then he will stay at VCU for another year.
