I talked to our AD (UALR) after the meeting was held on Saturday (about 10 days ago). He didn't give up any secrets, but indicated we would be adding teams in the Sun Belt "footprint". Indicated, at least 2, possibly 4 additions. Is AppState in our footprint? Who else could he be talking about? I talked to someone a couple of days ago that was hearing more about NMSU that AppState. New Mexico is not in our footprint but I'd love to add them for basketball. Anyone have any new info?

We aren't going to add NMSU or Idaho.

I would love to have New Mexico State as a member. I used to not be a fan of them, but the Sun Belt NEEDS another really good basketball school. I hope the commish sees that. I understand that NMSU is a little far and their football isn't very good, but if they bring in some nice NCAA tournament credits to share with the SBC schools, I think our schools will be just fine with that. Besides, it would be nice to add a school that's already FBS instead of adding another FCS school that more than likely will have crappy football AND basketball. Just my opinion.

20 total NCAA Tournament appearances

4 NCAA appearances just in the past 6 years. 151-86 in that same span. I'm all for them to be added.

How do most Texas State fans feel about adding NMSU?

NMST makes no sense as football only unless we have to have somebody right away to keep from collapsing.

They are by far the best basketball program that would want to join. If they could move the school about 8 hours east that would be swell.

Rest assured, we'll find a way to say that any school we add is in our footprint.

I feel fairly confident Idaho won't be rejoining the ranks.. NMSU seems more and more like an inevitability, especially with increased chatter of going to 12.

Based on the conversations I've seen on our boards, I'd say majority are in favor for full membership (not football only) due to

- Current FBS program, easy 'W' to help us go bowling early
- Adds school in the west
- Good MBB addition
- Flagship "state" school

My only qualms have to be location, but that will be a moot point soon seeing as though it looks like they'll soon get the call

Something to consider that would help all sides would be the possibility of football only with a scheduling agreement in other sports. They wouldn't be eligible for conference championships, but they would improve our basketball rpi and help fill ooc scheduling holes while they get the benefit of an FBS conference affiliation. In this way, everyone wins, if your school doesn't want to schedule them ooc, then you don't have to.

That is essentially what the MAC gets with UMass and before Temple.

From what I am hearing on the FCS side is that they might move down in athletics due to their financial problems.

I thought the same thing. But I think people are only thinking geography when they mention them. NO WAY to nooga!

For all of the people that are so fixed on Chatty, I don't know why they would not rather add Tennessee State? They play in an NFL stadium already, they are a "state" school, have no ambition about moving up just like chatty, and have a better media market. I also think Tenn St went 8-3 last season.

I just want the crap to be over. as a AVID fan of stAte its pretty sad when i have to second guess myself when trying to name the teams in our conference.

If Georgia Southern becomes members then hopefully the older fans of Ark State will not forget how big our last game was when we played each other.
