Basketball...

Quote:The ACC had been planning for months to accommodate Notre Dame if it was able to join for the 2013-14 academic year. The ACC already has formulated an 18-game, 15-team scheduling format for men's basketball.

Notre Dame will play home-and-home ACC games against Boston College and Georgia Tech along with two other ACC schools to be determined. Notre Dame also will play one game each against the league's remaining 10 members.

Football...

Quote:Previously the Big East unsuccessfully tried to get Notre Dame to schedule future football games against Big East opponents to allow an early exit from the league, sources said.

However, Notre Dame didn't have any future openings, in part because of its football scheduling agreement with the ACC. Notre Dame, which will remain an independent in football, will play five ACC teams annually starting in 2014.

This is just rehashing what's been known for months, because the move was officially announced.

Thank you for the lesson in reading comprehension, oh wise one. 01-ncaabbs

Thanks. I hadn't read that. Appreciate the explanation.

Weird system if you ask me. . . which of course no one has. 04-bow

It's a good system for strength of schedule. The statheads tell us that divisions aren't good for conferences in basketball because if you have one good team in a bad division they are penalized with a weaker schedule and it could hurt their NCAA tournament prospects. It's best to rotate the teams that you play twice every year.

Other conferences do similar things, but they don't give it the label the ACC does. The Pac has each team play its local "rival" twice every season in hoops and rotate the other teams between playing them twice or once in that season.

What does the two yet to be determined mean? Two schools annually or does that switch? If it is annually I believe Pitt and Louisville would be the other two. GT match-up is weird, I thought that was just a football rivalry.

I believe it is just 2 random teams twice a year in that given year. People can correct me if I am wrong. Thought it was 2 protected rivalries twice a year, 2 random teams twice a year, and then the other 10 once a year.

Hey at least FSU gets to play GT every year unlike in football.

Eventually the ACC is toast. Any league ND associates with will be picked apart by other leagues hoping to force ND's hand.

The Big 10 has already raided the ACC after ND joined. It's just a matter of time until the ACC is raided again.

Will the tournament use the double bye like the Big East tournament does now?

Yes the only difference is all 15 teams will play. BE only plays the top 14 teams. There will be 3 games on Wed, 4 Thurs, 4 Friday, 2 Sat, 1 Sun

No, all teams play in the Big East, UConn was ineligible for post season play this year so we had 14. The few years before that we had all 16. We used to only bring the top 12 then we added another day and brought the whole conference.

Because they might lose.

Well, that puts this thread at an end.

For football, there are rumors that the ACC would allow Notre Dame to play BC and Pitt every year but only if they agreed to a 6th game. The other four games would rotate through the rest of the conference so the other schools would see ND once every three years as planned.

First two schools the Big Ten should invite are BC and Georgia Tech.

Jim Delany is a stalker. He should have to register on some national database. Notre Dame should obtain a restraining order.

Yep. This board loves to use this:

http://espn.go.com/college-sports/story/...y-join-acc

As I read it, Notre Dame will make a scheduling commitment to play 4 ACC schools annually and with then rotate among the other ten members.

For the sake of discussion, let's assume that the other 2 schools are Syracuse and Pitt. That means if you are not BC, Georgia Tech, Syracuse, or Pitt and you are an ACC member, you get Notre Dame on your schedule once every ten years.

It doesn't seem like much of a concession from Notre Dame. Basically they're keeping on their schedule the teams they already play and then reserve one spot for an annual ACC game.

The article talks about ND's basketball schedule in the ACC -- not football.
