RE: Indianapolis Star: Butler to leave A10, Join Big East
The biggest part of the story:
Bernadette McGlade, the A-10 commissioner, said Friday in an e-mail that several presidents and athletic directors left a conference meeting earlier in the day. She did not identify which ones or why they left.

A source familiar with the situation said later Friday that representatives of several schools did leave early, but the departures were not because of the planned withdrawal and exit fees were not among topics discussed.

earlier, we had heard just Xavier and Butler- but this doesn't seem to necessarily jive with that at all.

It could have also been Temple and Charlotte who are leaving.

I kind of wouldn't have thought they would have been in the meeting at all.

I agree, they already announced they were leaving so they most likely wouldn't have been in any meeting that had to do with league issues not pertaining to this seasons spring sports.

Good luck to the Bulldogs in the Big East.

We hardly knew ye, but you're a good basketball program who earned it.

Saint Louis is legit. They are clearly the best team being considered this season. They are 6-1 against teams also being considered for the BE next year, A-10 regular season champs and possibly A-10 tourny champs.

If that's all the BE takes, the A10 is going to be still VERY good- a top 10 conference I think for sure. VCU, Dayton, SLU as cornerstones. Numerous schools they could pick up from the Midwest and east coast.

That might only be for one year. Even still you don't lose teams like Butler, Xavier and Temple and still be VERY good. If SLU and VCU can win OOC games and run the A-10 they can make the league look better than it might actually be.

The thing is- they'd be losing #3, 5, and 7(and 8- Charlotte). But still 4 top 6 teams- and then 3 others that were top 100 teams this year. Plus whoever they expand with. It's a top 10 league for sure- if anything they will move further ahead as the top mid major(if we stay at 10).

I think part of the good thing for the A10- Xavier being down this year allowed others like SLU to step up even more. It's not like they are losing 4 of the top 5 or something like that.

not necessarily. They could go 11 fb and 12 bb in 2014 and then 12/12 in 2015. Could see them wanting VCU in 2014 to fill a part of the gap with Louisville leaving. By then VCU could have 4 straight appearances with at least 1 final four, 5/6 years, and 6/8 years.
