This fight is sighly more than it appears.

If the Big 10 is able to lure Johns Hopkins (with a CIC carrot or otherwise), this helps the Big 10 in its pursuit of North Carolina, etc. How much it helps, I don't know. But it helps.

The ACC knows this. So they are pushing hard to get Johns Hopkins in their league as a blocking maneuver.

This would give the BTN better Spring inventory, and throw a bone to Maryland lacrosse. I don't see how a move like this would entice North Carolina to leave.

I could see the Big 5 (or what ever they are being called now) operating/owning single sport leagues when they don't have enough members to officially sponsor the sport. LAX might fall into this category. They all have or are planning their own networks. This would give them some inexpensive fodder for the odd times.

They may or may not use their own name. I personally like Eastern Lacross (aka ExLAX) more than ACC Lacrosse League.

It wouldn't entice a move. At most it would diminish any concerns about lacrosse. So on it's own it does little but it's one negative off of the list that along with other moves could eventually make a difference.

There isn't any ONE thing that the Big Ten can do to draw North Carolina. They would have to do multiple things in order to catch that whale. One of those things is absolutely showing that the Big Ten will be able to have a good lacrosse league. Is it the #1 priority? No. Are there multiple benefits to the Big Ten taking in JHU? Yes.

JHU to the ACC would create a 6 team super conference and I predict ESPN2/U games of the week in March and April.

Is there any actual evidence that the ACC is pursuing Johns Hopkins for membership? I've seen the Big Ten and others linked, but only speculation that the ACC is interested.

I think the talk about ACC is based upon assumption due to the quoted article stating that multiple conferences had contacted them. It certainly makes sense to me that the ACC would talk to them about it if the Big Ten was.

Yep. Of course this assumes the ACC is actually in contention as opposed to JHU just issuing a statement expalining their need to join a conference and going through the motions of listening to other offers before they accept the B1G's invitation. It is possible JHU' LAX is in the B1G Bag already.

A B1G question: can any games on BTN can be simulcasted and/or moved to Fox Sports 1? Sure Johns Hopkins gets on TV now, but I'm sure they'd like a better time slot than 5 PM on Tuesday.

Yes, it is absolutely an assumption that one of the conferences being talked about in that article is the ACC but technically I havn't seen any tried and true statements that the Big Ten has talked with JHU either so talking about any conference in particular when it comes to JHU is all speculation and assumption.

If one is to assume that the Big Ten is talking to them then one could easily assume that atleast part of their thinking is that JHU would be more bait for their main targets.

Those main targets are in the ACC so it would make sense that the ACC would then pursue JHU to remove any such "bait" from the Big Ten's grasp.

Most lax games are played on Saturdays.

Atlantic already answered your question about lacrosse but when it comes to the BTN and FOX, FOX has been making up their investment by basically using BTN as sort of subsidiary FOX channel. They did not pick up any Big Ten football games as tier 2 content like they could of. They let it all fall to the tier 3 BTN and they doubled up on Big 12 content to fill up FOX broadcasting.

Supposedly FOX has or soon will make up their investment costs and controlling stake in the channel will switch over to the Big Ten. I don't think FOX will be using the BTN like that anymore. That may be bad news for the Big 12 as suddenly more Big Ten content will be shown on FOX and Big 12 content may slip to FOX2 or FOX3 depending upon how many channels they have.

In regards to lacrosse, I dont know if each sport gets a separate deal but if it is similar then I imagine the more competitive matches may get some airtime on some of the newer FOX channels that would be like a FOX2 or FOX3. If the Big Ten can help take lacrosse more national then maybe it could end up on the main FOX channel for the top match ups.

Wow, if the Big Ten is involved and the ACC isn't then game over.

I hope that the Big Ten puts stipulations in though so that in a couple years JHU doesn't just go and announce they will be playing basketball at the top level so that they can get in on that Big Ten BB money.

There would have to be very clear directions on how JHU could move any other sports up to D1 if they join the Big Ten.

I find it hard to believe that they are not at least looking at ACC and Patriot.
