Sure, maybe it's better to play a pathetically weak schedule than to play all our non-conference games on the road. But are those really the only options? Central Michigan had home games this year against South Dakota St. (RPI 67), Notre Dame (RPI 2), Wisconsin Green Bay, (RPI 24), and Marquette (RPI 65). They also played on a neutral court against St. Joseph's (RPI 36).
