I had signaled her as toast the minute the episode did a recap of how they met last season. She's been in the background all season, so it was pretty clear that the only reason to bring her story out again would be to kill her off...

RE: Falling Skies
The introduction of a new character and then killing them off in the same episode seems pointless to me.

RE: Falling Skies
Interesting Episode tonight. Pope finally snapped and kidnapped Hal. Series seems to be setting up a Final Showdown next episode between Pope and Tom. They've been teasing this since the 2nd or 3rd episode of Season 1, whenever they first introduced Pope's character.

They also killed off Cochiese's father...which led to him understanding the human version of grief. Looks as if we will get a large Mid Final season battle next week, as the group investigates an Espheni base in Fayetteville, NC that is immune to Volm censors. Also, we got a tease of the coming "Final Battle" which will take place in Washington DC. The Dorian that Tom is speaking too keeps hinting at this major battle and telling him to be prepared for it. It is also admitted that the Dorian are the great weapon the Espheni fear, yet they've been extinct for a long time in their current form. That appears to be the next set of questions to answer after we get the Tom vs Pope showdown next week, which appears to conveniently take place in a motorcycle shop, harking back to season 1.

That happened during a commercial break by the way.

Yeah, I got into the episode late and wondered what was going on there...

RE: Falling Skies
Okay, so the Series Finale aired tonight, and while it actually did a halfway decent job of answering the questions that most people asked, it really felt sort of rushed. If they had made that whole attack on Washington 2 episodes, it might have done this more justice.

What we know: The first question asked in Season 1 was why the Espheni came to earth. While we sort of got hints at why at different points, it was answered today, through their queen. By the way...I hated the idea of a talking Queen. Especially one that looked like a creature straight out of the Harry Potter novels. But oh well. The Espheni first discovered earth 1500 years ago. Earth was considered key in their plans of a Universe wide Empire. It was the only planet in the Galaxy that could sustain life, and it had an enviornment and location that suited them. 1500 years ago, they first invaded Earth with a much smaller force, believing the population to be more primitive. The Queen's daughter led the invasion, and she was killed along with the force. (Their actually is a myth out there about Aliens invading thousands of years ago, Show just decided to tie it in to this. They vowed that when they were a hundred times stronger, they would return and wipe out humanity. The Espheni saw Earth's population sort of like a snake. If you cut off the head of a snake, the body dies. They believed that if they killed off Earth's leaders, that the rest of humanity would give up the fight. Never understanding that humanity doesn't work like that. They became obsessed with Killing Tom for a full season plus because of that reason. The ironic thing is, the Espheni are like a snake. Cut off the head, the body dies. It was shown all 5 seasons, you killed an overlord, the Skitters stopped fighting cohesively. Kill the Queen, the Espheni die off. (Sort of like a colony of insects)

The thing about this series was, had they simply led to this point. Taken the whole Skitter Hybrid Alien baby turned super human out of the equation, focused by the resistance, this sort of ending would make sense. The problem is, Tom killing a large talking Spiker with a super weapon as it tried to suck his blood out like a real spider does...sort of just loooked...well, weird. Bringing back the last member of a race killed by the Espheni as a plot character to help the ending is fine. It's just once Lexi was created...the whole series jumped the shark.

We answered questions though: Matt Mason goes on to write a book about the experience. Hal marries Maggie. Tom and Anne marry and have a real human child. Matt continues his relationship with that girl friend of his. Ben and Weaver survive whole. Anthony becomes a Solider. The Volm become friends and allies of humanity. Tom turns down the Presidency twice ala George Washington, but sort of becomes a key advisory figure that the entire new world leadership comes too. The series ends fittingly enough, with him giving a speech in front of hundreds of thousands of survivors at the foot of the Lincoln Memorial, and a new World Order is created where different countries become one species, working together. (In a mythical sort of way, its similar to how Star Trek used to claim humanity stopped fighting itself. Aliens came, we realized we needed to work together to survive, yada yada yada.

It wasn't a terrible finale. It tied in much better to Seasons 1 and 2. It's just the show got so lost in Season 4, that even Pope's eventual death (that correctly did not come at Tom's hands) wasn't enough to bring it back.

Complete side note, but if this series had ever had the guts to kill a Ben or a Hal off, it would have been far better in my eyes.

Glad it's over. It lost its way a long time ago as most Sci Fi om traditional networks tends to do. Heroes comes to mind. They just can't get out of their own way. Would have been a better series on SciFy or BBC.
