Nah not the Sun Belt, only GaSt. At least according to the GaSt AJC beat writer.
We're the Hero the need, but not the hero they want.
Nobody NEEDS hemorrhoids.
I'm not saying this as a slam against Georgia State, I have nothing against the institution, the football program, or its players. In fact because they are in state (Georgia wise) I'm for them until if and when we play them. These "Statesmen" oops that's Delta State, I mean Panthas will never validate themselves until they see their team beat Georgia Southern, until then it's just talk.
In contrast Georgia Southern's partisans have no such inferiority complex. In Georgia insofar as state programs are concerned, outside of UGA and GT we are the status quo, they are the new comers. We had humble beginnings followed by 30 years of tradition and success at the level of play that we have competed at. Let none of us forget where our programs came from Troy, UL- Monroe, Arkansas State, Texas State, MTSU, WKU, all competitive former 1-AA programs. A simple look up at
College Football Data Warehouse is all one needs to verify that. It's nothing to be ashamed of, heck one has to start somewhere ! Obviously we used to compete against you guys, we do have history which is more than can be said from the blowhard of downtown Atlanta.
If you notice, all they (the Panamas of Ga.State) fall back on is "academics" which is completely irrelevant outside of the Ivy League. I wouldn't call SEC partners Vanderbilt and Mississippi State "academic peers" and the two GSU's are a lot closer than that comparison or Mr. Panama want's to acknowledge.
Being from "Hotlanta", they the Panthertalk.com crowd throw off on little ole Statesboro GA, the "gnat capital of America", their skyline to our tree line, that sort of thing. They could just as easily be thumbing the nose (and probably are) at Monroe, Louisiana or Troy, Alabama. There is this since of arrogance that you guys here might not be aware of yet. It is that snobbery that most offends. In this blogosphere, they lack humility, even after a 1-10 performance in the CAA last year that included an abysmal home attendance highlighted by the infamous
CASH DROP .
Georgia State has tremendous potential, talk about being born with the silver spoon, they haven't had to invest in too much brick and mortar as have we and the rest of you of the SBC aside from U of SA to build their program and they're about to be playing in a new 1 billion dollar retractable roof venue in a few years at no cost to them . Good for them ! They have many material advantages, and someday with the right coach could grow into a mid-major juggernaut, we shall see. But humility goes along way in the respect department.
