Weynand, Chapman Shoot Blazers Over Tulsa, 59-45
Women's basketball takes over fourth place in Conference USA standings

UAB (17-11, 8-7 Conference USA) played without leading scorers Amber Jones and Ashley Grimes, forcing the squad to insert two freshmen into the starting five. Weynand, Chapman and Michaelea Kleist carried the Green and Gold on the offensive end with three double-digit scoring efforts.

RE: Ladies Win
Kelcie had no conscience in the first half from what I was told, I missed most of it, but UAB was up by at least 10 or 11. Liked a lot of what I saw of the ladies on the front line, too. Brittney's going to be a force in the near future, but has to learn not to put the ball on the floor in the paint, a number of times, she could have just gone up strong with it, Tulsa's ladies could do very little with her. I noticed also that Karisma seems to play better offensively posting up than taking people off the dribble, opposing defenses have cued on her everytime she drives to the hoop, but Tulsa could do nothing with her when she's posting up. Overall good show ladies, I've not seen UAB beat Tulsa much in sports this year, does my heart good whenever it occurs. One more home game to go, then it's "living on Tulsa time" for the tournament. Hope that Amber can go before then, she sat this one out with a sprained ankle. The way she was limping around after the Tulsa game makes me wonder if she'll be available for the tournament.

It just dawned on me that Ashley didn't play. Did she get hurt, too? If so, how bad?

She was wincing during the latter part of the previous game when we looked like the "walking wounded".

RE: Ladies Win
Today's win was huge! It clinched at least a tie for 4th place in the conference. We're a game up on the 5-way tie for 5th. Those teams tied for 5th are UCF (our next opponent, who we beat in Orlando), UTEP (beat them), Tulsa (beat them), Memphis (lost twice), and Houston (beat them).

Final matchups to watch out for (with conference rankings):
(4) UAB vs (t-5) UCF
(t-3) Tulane @ (t-5) UTEP
(t-5) Houston @ (t-5) Tulsa
(12) Marshall @ (t-5) Memphis

RE: Ladies Win
If we lose Thursday, looks like it depends on what Memphis does since UCF went 2-0 against Memphis and we went 0-2. UTEP swept Houston and Tulsa, but lost to all the eastern teams.

If we lose and and Memphis wins, we're looking at a 6 seed.

If we lose and Memphis loses, it depends on the Houston/Tulsa game: Tulsa win=4th seed for us, Houston win=tie with UCF on head to head with the other teams tied for 4th. (UCF lost to Tulsa, but beat Houston)

Have you noticed that the "injury bug" always seems to "bite" our Blazers around this time in the season? I recall Amber having to sit out a couple of games last year, Khalilah missed at least one with that knee, then we lost Destiny for the entire season with stress fractures, Michalea played with a bad hand/wrist in the latter part of last season, too, she took a beating in that paint, but soldiered on through. Now, this year, Amber, Chelsee and Ashley have all sat out at least one game due to injury. Has Karisma missed a game yet? I just hope we have all hands on deck for the journey to Tulsa next week.
