Since joining the league in '01, MT has the most championships (21) in the four major sports...MBB, WBB, football, and baseball.
It's a nice accomplishment, but probably should come with asterisks considering prior membership defections and the fact that half the league didn't play football when we joined on '01. North Texas also hasn't had baseball.
With that said, I was curious what you guys would prefer between having a dominant program in one sport vs having all around competitive programs in the major four. Take all the other non-revenue sports out it.
Basically, do you want to be bad-ass dominant in a one sport and suck at the other three or be in contention every year for all four?
There is no major four, only three.
I disagree entirely. Women's basketball may not be a very popular sport, but it's more popular than college baseball. If you are going to discount WBB, you need to discount baseball as well.

I don't have any figures on me, but it seems strange that WBB would draw more than college baseball. I see way more college baseball on TV than WBB, and certainly at Troy baseball attendance well exceeds that of WBB.

Really? More college baseball on television than WBB? I definitely don't think that's the case and I'd be willing to bet that most schools that sponsor both baseball and WBB, that attendance at WBB is higher. Now both of those may be a product of WBB being played primarily in the evenings and weekends while there are plenty of afternoon baseball games, but it is what it is. Granted MT has strong WBB and is in the top 30 in attendance every year, but I'm pretty sure our average attendance at WBB is higher than our capacity for baseball.

We're averaging 3,997 in women's basketball. They don't have the attendance number for yesterday's game, but I think it was more than 4,000.

If I could somehow make this deal... I think maybe I would trade sucky football for absolute domination in basketball.

RE: Preference for Your Athletics Dept
I was trying to think of two programs that exemplify this issue. It's easier to come up with the well rounded in those four sports that always seem to be in contention but don't necessarily dominate it. First school that came to mind is Louisville.
For a dominant program and not much else I thought of Boise St football. Maybe Gonzaga for hoops, but since they don't have football I dismiss them.
I believe Troy came close to doing this in football but two straight losing seasons and not as much national exposure as Boise so I'm going with Boise.
Does it change your perception any if I were to say would you rather be like Louisville or like Boise?

As a Texas State Bobcat I want to win championships at every sport, no exceptions. That goes for academics too!

So does everyone else. But not everyone has the means/resources/etc.
The question is which of these if you had to choose would you pick.

When women's basketball is on, there are three or four men's games and/or football games and/or NBA games and/or NHL games on at the same time.
College baseball faces reduced competition as most of the telecasts tend to come in April when college hoops are done so the games are more noticeable.
