Aresco in email: "[Kustra's] preferred tactic is still to put pressure on us."
Fun with public records act requests... CBS uncovered some email traffic concerning Boise's negotiations with the Big East prior to leaving.

http://www.cbssports.com/collegefootball...mails-show

Quote:New York-based attorney Joel Lulla, who consulted Boise in its dealings with the Big East, said Boise staying no longer made economic sense after original projections of $7 million per year in television money dipped to less than $2 million in December.

Boise proposed to sell its own home games while the Big East sold Boise away games. Lulla said research showed Boise's football value justified the requests.

“Mike tried, but membership didn't support a special arrangement,” Lulla said. “There was just no chance Boise could stay in the Big East without some sort of incentive of a bigger payout.”

03-phew probably will be a good thing for everyone that Boise did not join the BE/BW

Once the money didnt make sense, trying to get a better deal was the only way to make it work. You can look at it as Kustra trying to screw the conference or as Kustra trying to find a way to make the conference's far western football-only wing work. His requests can be taken either way.

This also confirms what I stated previously, Nbe knew for a long time what its contract was worth which was not much, but wasn't making it public. It appears the holding of this info by Nbe was primarily caused by the Nbe gyrations to hold onto Boise State.

It didnt make alot of sense either way. Its obvious from the communications that Boise already was aware of the numbers. The only thing I can gather is that some in the nBE camp felt that Boises exploratory efforts were undermining the negotiating position of the nBE, thus resulting in the lower than expected numbers.

Not sure what you are trying to say here but basically Nbe has not great value among Nbe-10/11. Boise State is not the culprit. Seems Nbe is always looking for a straw man.

I didnt say Boise was the culprit. In fact, I said their efforts could be construed as trying to save the western wing of the conference. Im simply giving a reason for why they might have tried to keep the number quiet. It wasnt to keep Boise. Boise already knew the numbers. However, in one of the emails, Aresco suggests that Boise's actions may be undermining the negotiation position. Thats his opinion. Also, the numbers expresses in the emails are the same as the current numbers. If accurate, as unlikely as it sounds, it would appear Boise added little to the contract value.
