No particular order there. Depends on mood really.

I didn't think of Brad Delp. I'd consider replacing Lou Gramm with him on my list.

Vocalists or singers?

My differentiating point is vocalists would be a front man for a band and a singer would be kind like an individualist/main focus of a group. Say Axl Rose vs Beyonce Knowles kind of thing.

*************

Ax Rose/ GNR
--Great range and can do aggressive as well as slow and melodic.

Scott Weiland / STP, solo
--Great range for all kinds of music

___________/ Queensryche
--guy just had a powerful voice

Freddie Mercury / Queen
--great range and ability to sing anything

Amy Lee / Evanessence
--her operatic sounding vocals really hit well with their sound.

David Coverdale / White Snake
--has a great voice for that kind of music.

Robert Plant / Led Zepplin
--Great overall sounding vocalist.

**********************

Singers, now to me I don't listen to too much of this kind of music but...

Mariah Carey
--Unplugged was a great showcase. IMO she sounds better when trying to actually sing versus making "dance" tunes.

(early) Janet Jackson
--Her early stuff was well sung.

Michael Jackson
--can't argue the guy could sing and he could do some different styles.

*James Brown*
--he could sing but I think him plus his band made him sound better than if he had done it another "way"

Geoff Tate. Yeah, I'm pretty sure he had some opera training.

When I got Operation Mindcrime, I couldn't get it out of my tape deck.

I haven't seen Bonnie Raitt on anyone else's prior list and she's an outstanding choice.

RE: OT: Have fun creating your 5 favorite vocalists list...remember it is yours
OK, I'm going for 'genres'...

Hard Rock - Rob Plant (old school) - Chris Cornell ('newer' stuff - not a major Soundgarden fan, but he made it effortless)

Metal - Rob Halford...dude could wail Metal banshee like no other

'pop' Rock (whatever THAT is) - Freddie Mercury

Country - Waylon Jennings - not a BIG fan of the genre, but the 'outlaw' stuff from the 70's early 80's was cool... and Waylon was the coolest. Of course, Johnny Cash can't be overlooked, who was obviously a big influence on Waylon's style...

'Country Rock' - Don Henley...although 'Life in the Fast Lane' just isn't quite in any branch of country... also grew up with Gregg Allman tunes, so he's gotta be on the list...

R&B - (male) - Stevie Wonder - (female) - Aretha.

Blues - Howlin' Wolf... strong influence on the first dude in the list...

overall female...Stevie Nicks...yeah, that's right...

:domokun:

...is that 5? 05-stirthepot
