That's obviously not the case in the South, where college baseball is clearly #3 and hockey practically non-existent.

How far north are we talking? I live in NJ and no one cares about college hockey.

Basically New England, New York, Big Ten states, and Colorado. Wasn't talking about you southerners in New Jersey. There's a conspicuous absence of college teams in NYC, Philly and points between. Not sure why. Certainly not for a lack of hockey fans.

College lacrosse is way bigger than hockey in New York.

Yes, he did. I was not going to comment but since you did...Holy hell, where/how/why would someone come up with such an idea?

RE: True ALL SPORTS Conference
Like someone else said, hockey is completely irrelevant within the real realignment discussion, unfortunately for Miami. None of the FBS conferences now sponsor hockey either, though the Big Ten is starting out next year, when the CCHA dissolves and the NCHC starts play.

Football rules, plain and simple, with basketball being a bonus. Markets are big for AQ conferences, though the reality is that for the MAC, Belt, etc. there's no way we'll get any significant market share. MWC and nBE will have decent followings, but as the recent offers have proven, there's not a huge demand for Tulane-Temple.

RE: True ALL SPORTS Conference
While the original post was obviously a personal fantasy, he brings to light something about conference realignment that few on the board -- especially those from the north -- are willing or able to fully grasp. Schools like North Carolina and Texas would be completely writing off successful baseball programs if they accepted an invitation from the Big 10. Now for those who live in areas that baseball can't even get started until March or April or in areas where baseball goes unnoticed, that is understandable. If you think hockey is the third most popular professional sport in the US, I can see how you would think a perennial College World Series contender -- like Texas or UNC -- would consign its baseball program to the oblivion of the Big 10. If you believe academics in the prime motivator behind conference realignment or that any school from any conference would thank its lucky stars for the opportunity to be a member of the Big 10, then I understand why you would think Texas, Notre Dame, UNC or Florida would jump at the chance.

I live in the real world, so I'm not buying it.

I have lived in the south all my life and enjoy hockey, I usually go to one minor league game a year. But I do not expect to see any players from the south at that hockey game. From a southerner point of view if you only see hockey on TV and not live you will not understand the finer points of the game. An icing call makes no since until you see it in person. It is the same with an offsides call because in most cases if you are only watching on TV you do not see the offsides.

To play hockey you have to have ice and ice rings are few and far between in the south therefore no hockey players. From UAH hockey roster only 4 players out of 25 are from the south.

In the south every junior high has a football and basketball team, and every High School has a football, basketball, and baseball team. This is why baseball is important to southern universities, southern kids grow up playing baseball.

RE: True ALL SPORTS Conference
So, can I make a conference up, as well? Ok, I'm gonna base it on Football, basketball, and disc golf.

Texas
UNC
ECU
Florida
Florida St
UVa.
South Carolina
Elon

They all play basketball and football. And, they all have disc golf courses by them, so the club team can practice. Ohh, we can merge them with Ultimate so there is a frisbee complex.

Alright, cool?

On a 1 to 10 scale in realignment, FB is a 10. BB is a 1.

All other sports combined are 0.0, like Blutarsky's GPA.

Disagree. Market is 10, Football is 7, Academics 6, basketball 4, everything else 1.
