The C-7 are the ones that wanted a fresh start. Who knows? We might be forced to give up the name. That said, listening to the posturing leads me to believe the pre-nup makes no clear declaration about the name. But it does say the C-7 is stuck with us 2 million dollar a year suckers until 2015. Maybe we let you guys go early and you give us the name. I would prefer that we keep the name. I think in the loing run, the name will help us to grow. Plus, publically, we dont need to take anymore demeaning hits. Unfortunately, the truth is, it probably doesnt matter. Even with the name, the BE conference isnt making beans so---its not like the name bestowed upon us great riches.

Syracuse was the Old BIG EAST....when they left the BIG EAST Died that day in September 2011...when Notre Dame left the following year any real hope of a revival was gone.

The BET was built with Rony Seikaly...Louis Orr...Pearl Washington...Rafiel Addison...those guys along with Ed Pinkney, Patrick Ewing & Chris Mullens are gone & MSG might have figured that out...time will tell...07-coffee3

The league has always been bigger than one school.

Syracuse is/was the heart & soul of the old league...yes it was more then one school but the Orange was the key...to put it simply...the old league could survive losing Miami...but not the Orange...losing Syracuse would be like the SEC losing Alabama...not putting the Orange on the Crimson Tide level but their brand meant that much to the old league.

No one was indispensable. Especially in a league like the Big East, that had to reinvent itself on a regular basis. Change happens.

I'm honestly surprised if MSq Garden wouldn't allow ACC to have its tourney there as part of a rotation. That would be a true "win/win" for NYC and for the ACC.

But I can't picture the ACC agreeing to hold the tourney in MSG every year, or 5 years in a row.

Yeah, C7 and ACC could alternate use of MSG for their hoops tournaments. C7 could play in DC or Indy or Chicago when they're not in MSG. I would think that the ACC only wants to use MSG once every few years, but who knows.

what i found to be the most interesting is his quote about Louisville wanting to keep the Big East name! 03-banghead

Why is that surprising? We are still a member and have won Championships in many sports under the Big East banner including Football BCS. Keeps the Legacy alive even after We leave in 2014 like You do. 04-cheers

The wording of the article suggested that Louisvile would still be there along with Memphis and USF and they wanted the BE name to remain with them. Louisville will have the BE as part of their history. Any championships willl still be part of their leagacy. Even if the BE name goes with the C7 the football history of the BE will go with it. The new conference will start a new legacy. The individual schools will still have their past. They will just be opening a new chapter in a new fb/all sports league, just as Louisville, rutgers, Syracuse,Pitt, BC,VTech and Miami have/will have done/do.

I find that hard to believe, too. I can see 50% of the time at MSG.
Realistically it should switch between Greensboro/Charlotte and NYC. Leave Florida and Atlanta out.

I see it alternating every year: NY/NC
or alternating every two years: NY/NC

Tell that to Seton Hall who opened up the upper deck at the Prudential for the first time to accommodate all the "Seton Hall Fans" to watch Cuse yesterday. Funny most of the upper deck fans were wearing Orange though.

Syracuse has a lot of fans scattered throughout The BEast's traditional territory. Most of 'em don't have all that far to travel, dude...

Zactly...lots of T-Shirt fans and alumni along I-95...this is why the ACC makes sense for Cuse and not the B1G.

And if all the schools along that corridor head to the B1G, what then?

I would expect fans of Syracuse to travel well, however expecting fans of opponents to venture to the middle of no where in upstate New York just isn't realistic...07-coffee3

The thing is Cuse fans aren't buying tix to every session. Plus Cuse fans aren't going to buy all the unsold tix from Miami, FSU, Clemson, wake, BC, UVA, vt and GT.

its highly unlikely all those teams would move to the B1G. The teams wont move just for money like maryland did. Im leaving west virginia out of the moving just for money because you guys had no choice except big 12(even though your on an island there) or staying in the bigeast after sec passed on you for missouri.
