Because USF is reporting that they are playing WVU on 11/25.....hmm...playing USF during rivalry week isn't exactly the same as playing Pitt....if the Panthers were unaviailable the league could have least gotten us Syracuse for that week

Yeah but by seytting up UL and WV as the lastwo games,the Bulls have a shot at being ranked and 8-2 or better heading into that stretch. Those are obviously the two toughest games for the Bulls.

-- I agree that USF will probably be a bowl team coming into Morgantown...but personally..I would just like to see a game during Thanksgiving week that has some historical signficance..My preferance would be Pitt but Syracuse would be fine...I'm just curious why the league did this

Is this game going to be Wv last game of the season? Usually the BE tries to setup a quasi conference championship between what is thought is going to be the 2 best teams in the conference. It creates excitement. But I agree, i have become used to the backyard brawl on turkey day.

The Big East really needs to do the following on Rivalry Week-Last Weekend of the regular season:

WVU vs. Pitt
Louisville vs. Cincinnati
Syracuse vs. Rutgers
UConn vs. USF

Now the first 3 are tradition rivalries and the last one could become a very fun rivalry in the very near future.

Also I hope the WVU-Louisville game is in November and not October.

My first instinct is the BE wants Pitt-WVU to be played on the first Saturday in December, with all the conference championship games. I'd be concerned about getting the right time and setting for that, though, and would hate to see the game settle for a lousy slot/channel due to other obligations.

If the BE is forcing this game as WVU's last, perhaps in the hopes of raising USF's profile, then I'm going to be sick. The Backyard Brawl is arguably the conference's most marketable tandem, and any attempt to force something at the expense of that event would be stupid, if not down right heinous.

Much as it pains me to say this, I think UConn/ Rutgers should be pressed more as a rivalry game as opposed to Rutgers and Syracuse. If the conference is to cement any type of hold on the Big Apple college football market, those are the two programs that will do it and both will likely feature more traveling fans than the Orange, sadly. I'm not sure that Husky and Knights fans feel the same, but that seems to have more national appeal to me, as a Cuse fan.

If the Backyard Brawl is not the last game of the year then this league is truly runned by Basketball Idiots.

I think the Big East is partly doing the scheduling as it stands now to assist teams with their recruiting. By giving the lesser teams high profile late season games, they make them more enticing to recruits. Like it or not, this will eventually lead to more $$$ in the Big East pot for everyone to divide.

I think they're trying to push a three-way rivalry between the schools really. Last year Rutgers won said rivalry scoring victories over both schools, which made the Scarlet Nation very very happy to score victories over our biggest rivals. As many RU and UL fans feel there is something brewing between dear old Rutgers and the Cards, that could end up being one of the biggest rivalries with serious national appeal. Louisville is a national program and Rutgers is rising towards such status in the largest market in the country.

I know what people say, but I just find it hard to believe UL and Rutgers will end up being a big time rivalry. WVU and UL I can see, however.

WVU and Pitt not playing the Backyard Brawl on Thanksgiving Day is like having Tennessee and Alabama playing on some day other then the third Saturday in October, or having Michigan play Ohio State in California.

The Backyard Brawl game date isn't nearly as set in stone as Tenn v. Bama or Michigan v. Ohio St.

The last time the Vols and Tide didn't play in October was back in 1913. For comparison, just since 1991, WVU & Pitt have played at least once in August, September, October, and November. The series looks like it was never played Thanksgiving Day/Weekend game until about 1997, and was played earlier in November as recent as 2003.

I would like to see rivalry games played consistently at the same time each year, but the backyard brawl has been much more flexible, even this last decade.

Actually, the Vols and Bama didn't play on the 3rd Saturday in October from the time the SEC split into East and West, except for 2 games. They just went back to the traditional weekend a couple of years ago when the SEC decided that traditional rivals should play every year even if they are in different divisions. One of those traditional rivalries was UT-Bama, and the traditional weekend was restored. I remember the complaints in Tuscaloosa and Knoxville on those occasions when they played on a different weekend.

I know. All I said was that every game between them over the last 93 years has been played in 1 month, October. WVU v. Pitt however has been played in 4 different months in the last 15 years alone.
