So you would rather NIU not try to gain a competitive advantage? They aren't doing it because "everyone else is doing it". They're doing it because they want him to come here and being the first to show interest/offer goes a long way with recruits.

RE: 2014 Recruiting Thread
When it comes to 1st or early offers, we are late to the party. I agree that to offer a 2016 recruit is over the top. When it comes to offering 2014 recruits, our offers total 9. Toledo which is the most aggressive in the MAC on recruiting year in and year out has given out 89 offers for 2014. Toledo has 10 times our offers out for next year. I know that half the staff is new, but we are on the very conservative side with regard to # of offers.

I saw the other day PJ offered the sophomore QB at Benet.

Offer out to Tim Gordon, DB, 5'11 175lbs from St. Paul, MN. Scout page doesn't list the offer but it was tweeted by the NIU Athletics account.

Well, before signing day, anyway.

It looked better the night before, but he had a few flip on him on signing day.

I suspect he'll do just fine once he gets a full year of recruiting in. Anyone who's ever talked to him knows he can sell a ketchup popsicle to a woman in white gloves.

The fax machine failed PJ. All PJ has to do is travel around to every high school on Signing Day and he can get whatever recruit he wants. With those eyes and his good looks, five-star players heading to Bama will flip to WMU. It's hard to say no to that face once you see it.

Unfortunately, I believe it is banned for coaches to leave campus on signing day.

And all these years I've been using the old "ice cubes to Eskimos" line. Not anymore!

I know they are from MN. It was still an awful day to visit Dekalb. I'm sure campus was a ghost town and the visits were stuck sitting in the same building all day. Doesn't leave a very good lasting impression. Then they'll visit some other places this spring and it'll be beautiful, campus will be bustling and they'll get to go on the field etc. Don't underestimate the power of girls in skirts walking around campus.

I never did, but I never got any of them. 03-weeping Maybe that's the underlying reason for my sex change operation, so I'd finally have a woman.

Ah. Yes. Sun dresses. A fine sight to see around campus in the spring.
