Chris Simmon's DNR/Rivals Article-
The article is titled "Will JMU Pay Raises Delay Approval of New Arena?" http://jamesmadison.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1466165 It is a decent article that talks about the money problems JMU has. More specifically why the arena will be delayed another year in order to ensure that faculty get the pay raises needed. The article also touches on student fees and athletic funding. Here is one quote
Quote: If Madison had lots of rich alumni, it could hit them up for a John Paul Jones Arena. But it doesn't, so it has to rely on student fees, and that ATM machine appears to be tapped for the time being.

dude has such a bone with JMU.....calling VCU a "sexier" school. That was worth a huge laugh....especially when he fails to mention VCU's RIDICULOUS rise in tuition and fees in the last 5 years...a rise of 59% since 2007. JMU tuition/fees have increased 32%. For 2012-2013, VCU tuition is 12.2% higher than JMU.

Yet, when it comes to undergraduate education, JMU is LIGHT YEARS ahead of VCU. 80%+ kids who get into VCU and JMU will chose JMU

Dude is worse than a hack, and I have no idea how he has a job.

Yeah, I'm not sure why he was saying VCU being "sexier?" I guess his reason were because of a higher salary for teachers and the final four (which btw VCU fans happened while you were still part of the CAA).

I thought the article was on about funding and too be quite honest, this is a reason why I decided to promote the DC now instead of later. I felt that if we want to become more, then we need to get involved now.

Chris Simmon's DNR/Rivals Article-
I've been a student at VCU for 3 semesters and change, and I can tell the quality of education is night and day in favor of jmu. Higher tuition isn't justified to me either.

Chris Simmon's DNR/Rivals Article-
I finally read this article today. All I have to say is, since when is VCU ahead of JMU in the VA academic pecking order? That is news to me! I guess sat scores, acceptance rates, us news rankings, those mean nothing?
Isn't a 6th ranked regional school typically viewed as better than a 170th ranked national school?

I haven't read the article, is that a claim made by Simmons or does he cite some outside resource. If it's just simmons, he's got a pretty good rep as a JMUhater.

If it's some other source it is probably taking into consideration all the Doctoral programs, med school and dentistry. The latter two which are very good. Who knows.

I'm assuming that he is making a point that because of VCU's affiliation with MCV, that the medical school puts them above us or something. It just seemed like he was throwing his opinion around and not really justifying it with real rankings. I'll quote it later when I get home.

RE: Chris Simmon's DNR/Rivals Article-
Dunk, here's that snippet that really raised most of our eyebrows. His entire article is pretty harsh and I can tell he has no love for the Dukes.

"Obviously, the last thing new president Jonathan Alger and vice president of finance Charlie King want are restless professors as JMU competes with sexier — and far higher-paying — schools such as Virginia Commonwealth for brainpower.

The average salary for a full professor at JMU was $87,400 in 2011-12, the last date for which statistics were available. VCU paid $118,600.

Comparing JMU and VCU, though, is a stretch, despite their traditional rivalry in sports. Virginia Commonwealth, thanks to its graduate schools, is higher in the pecking order among universities than Madison."

I wonder if much of that salary difference is because VCU has a medical school and many of their doctors are listed as "faculty"

wow. What a hack. He's really got a hard on for JMU, guess he wasn't admitted or his last girlfriend that dumped his ass was an alum or something. That's not even a news story, that's more in line with smack talk from a message board. Wow.
