Hey Gunner Fan
Have you heard anything about Virginia Tech being on some kind of probation from the ACC as a result of the two "stomp incidents" that took place recently. Saw this on a couple ACC websites. The tobacco road fans even when so far to say this could be a first step to kicking VT out of the league (an action I highly doubt would take place...but one I would find very funny). Have you heard anything about this? I imagine the league can't be pleased with the image the Hokies are presenting. I never realized how many ACC people wanted Syracuse over VT.

The Hokie stomp. Sounds like a new dance craze.

Would we let them back in the Big East? Would we want them back?

I like that ;-) The steps are simple too.

From what I understand:
- The ACC sent a memo to VT re: Marcus Vick's escapades, reminding the school that if they didn't take action that a) the league could and b) it already had its hand on the trigger finger.
- Because the above was handled by the school I'm unsure if the conference was going to come down on the second incident as a "legal continuation" of a problem or simply another individual incident. Either way, I'm sure the conference admins sent the usual first note regarding player discipline, and I know Coach Greenberg expressed his regret about the icident during the conference's press roundtable. To date I've not seen official notice that the school has been put on probation of any kind, but if they haven't then I'm positive they're being reminded of the rules... and the costs. Continued violations within 1 sport usually lead to prohibiting that team from conference post-season play and all related $. This might be the kicker here, that the incidents occured in different sports and one has already been resolved, so to speak. As soon as I find anything official, I'll let you know.
- If a formal punishment is to come it would likely be a combination of probation status across all sports for one year, extra time for the sports in violation, and then $.

- Given the current configuration the ACC is unlikely to kick anyone out without assuring there is a replacement in hand. The mantra is they'd rather solve the problem then drop it off at the roadside. (Notice FSU's institutional violations are all but a thing of the past.) That being said...
- it was the folks at UNC who lamented the VT arrival the most. They're not institutional rivals in academia, so I can only assume it's a combination of paranoia and bruised ego. Miami as an institution carries a lot of swagger, but the leadership and the nature of the school suggests it would be very much a team player in the conference. Yet VT, while culturally the perfect fit for Tobacco road, is also the most brash and spirited institution of those invited, and many feared they'd try to take over the league if accepted. (Sound familiar?)
- Believe me, unless the league knew someone like Rutgers or Cuse was at the doorstep and able to move in at the drop of a hat, or helmet as the case may be, then the ACC would rather drop the hammer on VT then outright dismiss them.

For now, anyway.

Those who saw an idealized vision where fans of the Orangemen and Eagles would completely accept the move, flock to Carolina for conference tourney's and bring the eyes of the northeast with them... yeah, they wanted the Cuse bad. But I view that as akin to my fantasies about Nova or Temple in the BE: Based more on what could be instead of what is more likely. Clearly Orange basketball would add to the conference luster and I doubt support would die, but it seems naive to think Syracuse and the ACC would be the same or better. I don't think the combination would allow the conference to claim anymore real ground with northeastern fans, recruits, etc. Plus there'd still be this real intrusion into the ACC by the growing VT, WVU and Louisville programs. Fortunately for the BE UConn's upgrade in football has ensured no other conf. will have a stronger foothold within the region, which I think Cuse understood and some in the ACC did not.
