Losing our OC to WKU hurt us on the kid from Vestavia... he was recruiting him hard at UAB, so I'm assuming he was able to get him to switch.

I have a feeling we still have a few moves to make on our part as well, but closer to signing day. I do not think the decommits were linked... just came after visits and offers from other places... poor timing.

One thing that happens in our favor is that this is the time the big boys tell recruits sorry no room or how about a gray shirt. They then accept our offers.

Well, the good news is that we should have room for some SEC gray shirts - particularly at corner, DE and OL. Here's to closing well.

Starting to think Kalvin was encouraged to look elsewhere...perhaps our new coach Peoples was not high on him.

Although I was in panic mode for a moment earlier, the sky is not falling.

This staff loves skill players and seems to be of the philosophy we are not going to sign linemen who cannot come in and help immediately.

Monday the 28th means 9 more days until NSD on Wed. 2/6. I am hoping we will get the kids we need to become competitive with more of our opponents.

More bad recruiting news for UAB. From @MeganALVarsity, Spain Park QB Nick Mullens switched his commitment to Southern Miss

SMiss loss their top QB commit to Miss St yesterday...

Rivals reporting UAB offer to Ga QB(per GA QB). Do not know who(need subscription)

Note to recruits: Do not commit to a program, do a videotaped interview about loving the school and wanting to make a mark, and then commit to another school. Just makes you look....

UAB has now lost 3 QBs before they ever played a down with 2 of them being local metro-area kids. Is there any chance in UAB finding out (no, I don't expect it would be made public by UAB) why a number of our better commits switched schools? If it is because of something the school can improve for the 2014 recruits, then we should make it a priority to make the needed changes. If we don't know why, we can't make any needed changes and we risk the same thing happening over and over each year. I know that someone will say "It happens at every school" and it certainly does, but players like Mullins going to a BCS school is more easily explained than going to a school UAB has a winning streak against like USM. UAB needs to know why.

TJ Green is understandable going to Clemson. Hart from Florence I'm worried about losing as he was undersized. Mullens I don't like losing (especially to a rival) because he's local and had good stats but I think we'll be fine at QB with Brown and Briscoe. The guy I hate losing the most is Robinson. I think he could've helped us.

Losing a local kid to our biggest conference rival is really adding insult to injury.

Nick Mullens to Southern Miss. Understandable, not likely to see playing time at UAB because of Austin Brown and Briscoe. Wide open race for starting qb at USM. USM is losing 2 QBs who are transferring.
-Anthony Alford to Ole Miss. http://www.cbssports.com/collegefootball...t-ole-miss
-Arsenio Favor to Alabama State. http://www.al.com/sports/index.ssf/2013/...013_m.html

Jamaris Hart to Arkansas State. Better football program, in whats becoming a better conference. Probably gets less playing time early on than if he came to UAB.

TJ Green to Clemson. Bandwagoner. Not sure he will see playing time. Not bad playing on the 2nd best team in ACC either. He'll be in no situation different than the bench warming walk ons at UAT who had scholarship offers to play elsewhere. Except he gets a scholarship.

Kalvin Robinson to WKU. Better football program, in whats becoming a better conference. Brohm was probably his assigned recruiter. Not hard to sway him away.

Probably more de-commitments to come. Ill trade skill players for O-linemen and D-linemen.

Give me Fraser and Moore for O-line.
Ill take Rodney Edwards and some juco d linemen.

Gotta win games to get good recruits, gotta have good recruits to win games. Thats why UAB has been the revolving door of suckage. Unfortunately stars as it relates to recruits matter more than we are willing to realize.

Sorry but I can't see how the Sun Belt is a becoming a better conference. You may need to explain that one to me. C-USA just gutted them like a fish.

Btw geez get a grip folks. It's called recruiting. This goes on every year and every team loses guys to another one.

RE: Visitors this weekend (Champlin article at post #2)
Committing to UAB and then visiting another school with real facilities and much better media and fan support makes for easy decision for most kids. In any event no one we lose this year will ravage the team. We had 51 freshmen and redshirt freshmen last year. Those that remain are undoubtedly bigger and stronger than whoever might come in as freshmen this year. The DE position has many bodies; our WR position, other than losing 2 very physical WRs can still be strong, especially if Humphrey does, indeed, play; our OL will be in good shape. The key to this year's team, as with all of the recent teams, will be the defense. There isn't any player (maybe the DL from GA) who would make a real impact there. We played defense with a lot of freshmen last year meaning breaking into a meaningful playing rotation is unlikely. We can still pull in some HS guys who, after a redshirt year in the system and weight room, could be solid contributors in the future. I think after this year (his 1st recruiting year) HCGM realizes his recruiting strategy will have to be adjusted. I think we may backfill with a couple of JUCOs, as well. Let's wait and see how things play out.

Looking at recent activity:

Decommits:
**QB Nick Mullens 6-1 180 Hoover,Ala. (Spain Park)
WR T. J. Green 6-3 200 Sylacauga,Ala. (Sylacauga)
**DE Kalvin Robinson 6-5 225 Vestavia Hills,Ala. (Vestavia Hills)
**CB Jamaris Hart 5-9 170 Florence,Ala. (Florence)

Possible other decommits
**RB Julius McCall 5-10 180 Chelsea,Ala. (Chelsea School) - visited Troy this past weekend
**TE Korey Cunningham 6-6 250 Montevallo,Ala (Montevallo) - visited Cincy last weekend; may visit Auburn

Probable non-qualifiers:
**WR Courtney Foy 5-11 175 Midfield,Ala. (Midfield) Co Lin CC UAB decommit
**Saf Ryheem Dixon 6-0 200 Flomaton,Ala. (Flomaton) UAB decommit
**LB Fredrick Rich 6-3 200 Tanner,Ala. (Tanner)

Might we go back at these guys?
**CB Demetrius Smith 6-0 170 Pensacola,Fla. (West Florida Tech) UAB decommit
**CB Trey Jenkins 6-0 185 Daphne,Ala. (Daphne) UAB decommit
