Sad he was truly dedicated to UT. Great coach, great man. I wonder what the violation was.

Unfortunately, low interest programs like XC are usually dependent on one person for their success, the head coach. When that coach is no longer there, it's difficult to maintain the program.

Now we have two UT sports mysteries. Why did Cat Wells have problems with Coach Cullop & what did Hadsell do wrong? He seemed like a great guy.

Cat as I understand had an attitude and was not coachable. Primidonna type who thought she was better than everybody and couldn't get along

Really disappointing news. Hadsell built a great program, and I loved the tweet to Beckman advising him to stay in Toledo instead of taking the dead-end Illinois job. On a related note, I hope that no student-athletes were harmed by whatever policy Hadsell violated.

Must have been something that did not allow for any wiggle room...so sorry for everyone involved. Reading his bio reminds me of just how dominating his teams were. Real sad.

Back in my day Coach Flaminio, ut Track coach, was let go for recruiting a Kenyan athlete who he thought was a champion 400 runner.
After a year or two it came out the athlete was a cousin of the champion.
Coaches are held to a high code of ethics .

Guy was a hurdler as I recall and the violation (Toledo's ONLY NCAA violation) was that Flaminio paid for the wrong Kenyan's airfare to the US. Flaminio was a pretty nice guy but he really wanted to win. I think he was on the NCAA Champs at WMU back in the day.

The guy we got was a quality person and tremendous athlete.
Coach rolled the dice and lost his job.
Just shows even back then , past transgressions , as lance Armstrong learned, do not go away.

I remember some years ago there was a rumor that Coach Hadsell had a "live-in" relationship with a female athelete. Don't even know if that was true but this is where my mind went when I heard the news of his resignation.

I have no inside info (and never even heard of that rumor), but my first thought was that it was some kind of inappropriate relationship - whether it be with an athlete or co-worker or someone else.
