Sometimes losses can snowball when the players lose confidence. They need something good to happen.

RE: ECU @ UAB Thread
I have to agree that this season in football was a low point for the program, although I saw hope with all our redshirt freshmen and true freshmen players taking their beating and learning for the future.

Basketball seems to be even lower than football, since we have no young players (freshmen) who are learning for the future. We bring in a respectable crew of freshmen next year, but they have to learn the same system our current upperclassmen are strugggling to adopt. Based on what I'm seeing this year, I suspect it will be year 3 before we can tell if Haase is going to bring us back to prominence. I'm also wondering if some of the juniors from this year's team will be back next year.

Our current roster includes one legit post player, zero slashers/penetrators, about 3/4 of a point guard, and zero consistent perimeter shooters. We are the definition of dysfunctional with respect to skills needed vs. skills available. Any team with size and quickness finds us simple to defend. I don't see much hope of a significnat improvement in the second half of the season if we can win at home vs. ECU.

But we'll weather the storm of this year and come back for more next year with our hope all built up again, because that's what you do as a Blazer fan in this new century.

Those of us who are old geezers remember back to last century when UAB was a name to be feared in the basketball world. May we find ourselves in that place once again before the incoming crop of freshmen graduate.

Great post. Sometimes as a Blazer fan I feel like one of the Shia pilgrims walking down the road whipping myself with chains. People ask me why I keep doing it if it causes me so much pain. "Why torture yourself?" After this long I guess it's just part of who I am. One of these days things will turn and all this suffering will have been worth it. Or so I keep telling myself.

Go Blazers

Best silver lining I can see is that our whole class signed early.

Yes, every phase. Let's not count how many turnovers ECU had. Let's not look at how well UAB shot the 3 today. Let's not look at the offensive boards UAB got. Let's not look at the fact that UAB won the rebounding battle tonight. Let's not look at the assist numbers. Let's not look at the good night several of the guys had. Let's just say UAB is bad in every phase of the game.

UAB is very poor defensive team. We do not shoot the ball well. We are sloppy and turnover-prone.

A few guys shot the ball better tonight. They went from dismal to mediocre. Swing decided to play some finally but still 2-7 from three, his main role on the team. Quincy Taylor was en fuego for him but still an A/T of 0, his main role on this team. Add to that being torched on defense. Not that T. Jones was any better.

This team is terrible, the worst I've seen put the uniforms on and I've seen them all. You can pick out a few positive nuggets, they're there. Nobody is stopping you from accentuating the positive. As someone who has seen the highest highs of this program, this year has been one of the lowest lows. The product we have put out on the field and the court in our major sports has been embarrassing. Excuse me for being sick about it.

I didn't know 3/3=0. I'll keep that in mind, and let everybody I work with know the same. It is important to keep our math skills up working in AR.

I can't even talk to you doomsday folks, because there is nothing I can say to make you feel any better. This team is learning on the fly. Our transition defense is surely not where Haase wants it to be. But, you have to remember we have 7 guys playing almost the entire game. If you keep running up and down the court in a game setting, you are eventually going to fatigue. Defense tends to be where guys will let up a little.(right or wrong, watch any team and you'll notice that)

It's not fair to this coaching staff, or this team to sit around and bash them and say they suck at this point. It is far too soon to expect everything to be clicking on all cylinders. I understand as UAB basketball fans we aren't used to watching a team have a losing season, but sometimes struggling short term leads to success long term. I don't know what kind of expectations everybody had this year, but I think they were a little too high. Unfortunately, this team started off with a hell of a conference schedule. Things will ease up a little, and this team will win some more games. If we aren't going to a tournament this year, does it really matter if the team has 10 wins or 14 wins or 16 wins? Does one make you feel much better than the other?

Wow, you got me. I really meant that 0 was how much QT has improved since he walked on campus.

You were the guy who said after the Illinois State game, "PG is the least of my worries this year." Point guard is the most glaring problem on this team and has been since AJ left. Someone who knows basketball could figure it out from watching this team for five minutes.

Things will get better and I still think Haase was a good hire. But this team sucks and like Coach said, nobody is going to feel sorry for them. That includes the fans who expect and deserve better.

Everybody is a genius in retrospect. We had several guys I thought were capable of getting the ball up and down the court. Unfortunately, TJ likes to shoot a lot, and Quincy is still recovering. I still think if we had a couple of more bigs, the PG position would not be the issue it is today. We had 20 something assists last night without a great PG.

I just feel a few of you guys are being way too hard on this team and Haase right now. But I can accept it now... you guys are all right and I'm wrong.

The APR penalties (Lost two scholarships and one day a week practice time) have really hurt this program coupled with the APR restrictions and with Davis's poor program management. It is the equivalent of MAJOR NCAA sanctions.
I like our future though. Three of the five incoming players may be starers next season and the influx of new players will enhance our returning guys. We should be a lot better next season but not where we need to be. looks to me like at least one full recruiting class more and he really needs to hit on 2014 as we lose 6 guys.

This team in many ways, is starting all over, from scratch zip, zero. There are many missing pieces with this team, but they are playing to win.
Look I am going to every game with the belief we are going to win, and then win again and again.
I want this team to experience more success this year, for the seniors, and for the future development of the team.

This is not a bad team, its a team needing some more personnel. This team with a couple of big men to go alonf with Faz, would have won at least 4 maybe more games.

We are loaded at the 2 and 3, and will be loaded again next year if we can keep this team together.

Q is a serviceable point, he doesnt dribble with both hands equally and he plays well and bad in spurts, but he had a good game last night.

If he continues to develop, he will be our starter next year at the Point or again our top reserve at the Point.

I see our glass as half full, and with potential to run over.

Didn't take a genius then to see our weakness at PG.

I think the reaction from UAB fans to this season and football season has been quite restrained. A lot of places would be dog-cussing all the AD, the coaches, the players, and their families (see USM and Memphis). Then after the games they come online and do it.

UAB has a small core of great fans who have hung in there for decades. They are doing their part. Have the teams done their part?

So basically, unless the teams are winning, they aren't doing their part? And if the team loses a game we should be cussing at the AD, coaches, players, their families, etc?

Got it.

Both teams have been really, really bad. That ain't doing their part.

I said UAB fans were restrained in comparison to a lot of other schools. I said we have a great core of fans. How do you get that I think we should be cussing at people?
