Coaching Hires - Football
Now that we know Curt Newsome is back. I wonder how likely it is that we are going to get Mike O'Cain or Hal Mumme as OC?

RE: Coaching Hires
Mathew Stoss just reported that Hal Mumme has resigned his head coaching job at McMurry. As many know, Mumme and Mathews are really close. Stoss also reported that he is a candidate for the OC job. Begs the question if Hal has accepted the job at JMU?

Article is about Hal resigning because he wants to pursue other opportunities.

Mumme and Mickey are a great combo...expect an announcement in short order.

Welcome to the board Longhorn. I agree, I think it will be a good combo and as others have stated, this will be one OC (if it comes to pass) that MM will not override.

A poster on the other board believes that Jeff Hanson-former running backs coach at UVA, Hal Mumme, and Curt Newsome will be announced soon as our new coaches. If true, great hires by MM.

I'll admit I know nothing of these coaches aside from Newsome, but if more knowledgable jmu fans are happy with it, I'm happy with it. This is the first bit of good news for JMU in quite some time.

Well, I've been hard on MM, but I really think he's hit the nail on the head if we get all these guys coaching for us.

I am hoping it is true because that will show a lot of guts by MM to change up what he is use to. I also don't think you will see MM override Mumme. MM will be here to stay a little while longer for sure.

So if the reports are true. Hanson will become a d-line coach, Humme the OC, and Newsome, the O-line coach.

Those all good, proven coaches. We have to hop they provide immediate help, or it may be a 1 year gig.

RE: Coaching Hires - Football
And to think of all the venom spewed MM's way when the firings of Durden Etc. were announced. He must have known Newsome was going to become available, I'd bet Beamer gave him a call early on to let him know he was gone from vippysue.

And I' do find it kind of odd whenever a HC would resign his gig to take a coordinators job elsewhere, unless it's a big move up like a Clawson type thing at Tenn. It happens, so it's not unheard of. Maybe Mumme wants a little less on his daily plate.

Could be a very interesting time and transition.

Yeah, nothing official has been announced, and I also wouldn't be shocked to see Mumme end up at an FBS program as an offensive coordinator either.

Wouldn't surprise me either. Mumme seems the kind of person that seeks the best opportunity possible.

Coaching Hires - Football
That would be the last thing our fan base needs. I was able to talk my friend down from not going to any games, to getting a 3 game mini plan, based on the mumme news.
We need good news desperately.

RE: Coaching Hires - Football
It is looking more and more likely that Mumme is our OC. Hanson still isn't a definite, but a good chance according to Stoss.

"A source: Hal Mumme is expected to named JMU's new offensive coordinator." and "The new OC won't be announced until after Feb. 1. That's when the job ad expires. Start date for the job is March 1." and on Hanson "More news: There still appear to be hangups with Jeff Hanson. Still think there's a good chance he ends up at JMU, but it's not definite."

RE: Coaching Hires - Football
Some fun fact tweets from Stoss "Some math I just did: D3 McMurry under Mumme averaged 346.4 passing yards last 4 years. I-AA JMU averaged 145.5 during same span."

"Points per game over that four-year span: McMurry averaged 33.6, and JMU averaged 22.7." https://twitter.com/MatthewStoss
